Bring back The Cold Equation

For those of you that have seen the datamined info for the upcoming exotics, you'd know the The Nothing Manacles have received a perk change. The original perk, The Cold Equation, would allow Voidwalkers to receive a shield upon killing an enemy with an ability. I, like im sure a lot of you voidwalkers out there were, was really excited for this version of the Nothing manacles. Personally I thought the perk was great, not really overpowered, and could actually compete with Obsidian Mind as the best voidwalker exotic. I liked the theme of the item. The description reads: "The Equations balance thus: You are diminished, and I am exalted. You are broken, and I am made strong.". The description poetically described the actual function of the perk, not to mention it paired with the actual name of the perk. All in all the original version was awesome. Purple sunbreakers that came with an amazing, versatile perk. Then it got changed. The new perk, Scatter Charge, grants an extra charge for Scatter grenade, and gives it tracking capabilities. This caters to a very specific kind of player, one who A) Always uses the scatter grenade B) absolutely needs to have two grenades, and C) has yet to figure out the grenade arc. They decided it was a good idea to change a very solid and versatile perk into a niche grenade upgrade. With the original perk, a voidwalker pve exotic wouldve been a hard choice. Do you want to have the opportunity to immediately recharge your super with obsidian mind, or do you want to be able to last longer in intense situations. Now the choice is, do you want the chance to immediately recharge your super, or have a slightly better scatter grenade. LITERALLY NO ONE WILL CHOOSE NOTHING MANACLES OVER OBSIDIAN MIND. Once again, there is a clear choice of what exotic is best for a certain subclass. Obsidian Mind still wins by a long shot. This is a serious problem that destiny has that the devs don't seem to realize. When exotics don't offer different, but equal perks, everyone using a certain subclass defaults to a single exotic. What Gunslinger doesn't use Achlyophage Symbiote? What Defender doesn't use Helm of Saint-14? What Sunsinger doesn't use Heart of the Praxic fire? It's the meta for a reason: All the other exotics don't come anywhere near how useful these ones are. And it's a real shame for Voidwalkers especially, since the best pve exotic for them is just a reskin of a base helmet model. Gunslingers and Sunsingers are at least getting exotics that compete with their top choices for pve. Do you really need a 4 shot golden gun when you can have one shot that deals damage equivalent to 6 shots? And sure you can have further decreased ability cooldowns, but what if you could blind anything camping your corpse? And us voidwalkers are still forced to default to a boring reskin solely because all of the other options are niche or make little difference. The devs took a possible top tier exotic, and decided to make it a probable bottom tier one. As a dedicated Voidwalker, all I wanted was something I could use instead of Obsidian Mind, and have it be good enough that I wouldnt feel like an idiot for using it over my subclass's top choice. With its original perk, the Nothing Manacles were going to fulfill my wishes. But now that they've been changed, it's clear that most Voidwalkers will still be wearing a lazy reskin by the time The Taken King drops. So please bungie, have pity on this desperate space wizard that just wants to be different. CHANGE THE NOTHING MANACLES PERK BACK TO THE COLD EQUATION. IT WAS PERFECT BEFORE, DONT RUIN IT. PS: Don't tell me the ram is gonna cure the voidwalker durability dilemma. high armor stat has nowhere near the effectiveness of an oversheild and instant health regen is useless if you're still being shot at when its triggered. PSS: Reminder that the Celestial Nighthawk (formerly the Exotac angel hunter) originally had a horrible perk, and after enough complaints from the community, it was changed to what will most definitely be the new top gunslinger pve exotic. Reverting the nothing manacles change is a perfectly reasonable request.

  • You are dumb as fck. This exotic gives into the voidwalkers sheer destructive capacity. Honestly I didn't think much of this perk at first then I used it... Jesus. If you throw one within 5 ft or so of enemy, he is dead. If you use annihilate and bloom, then him and anyone near him is dead. Just one. I've wiped whole teams with a single scatter at once. This exotic rewards skilled aiming tremendously. To the point where I think it's OP that we get two. I vastly prefer the new manacles to the old ones. Its my perma exotic for pvp where as omind is my pve one

    • They probably changed it because an instant non-schorch melee overshield would have been tremendously overpowered in PvP.

    • Lol noob you can only get your super immediately is of you kill like 10 enemies with every super, so that easily makes nothing manacles better for PvP. Now in PvE they better piece of gear is situational. If you are fighting lots of enemies and you are good at getting enemies bunched up, Obsidian Mind. But this also applies to nothing manacles and NM are better for single targets. In my opinion, Nothing Manacles wins by a long shot.

    • This is why you shouldn't trust data mined items. You'll definitely get disappointed. But as a fellow Voidwalkee warlock,I fell in love with Nothing Manacles. The increased grenade throw is very special, since I have studied he trajectory of grenades and studied possible movement patterns of enemies. Scatter grenades with the Manacles perk can kill a player with full health. It really depends in your play style. :D

        • Honestly, scatter charge us better, as it gives scatter grenade tracking. Scatter grenade already has a one explosion kill potential, and tracking guarantees that you will get the kill if you land your grenade correct

              • I would like for all the new exotics to have good, competing perks. I don't like saying the words, "useless exotic", yet I say it, because it's true.

              • I agree, each class is pigeonholed to one exotic and it defeats the purpose of producing other exotics when they pose no tactical advantages in their practical use. These are merely cosmetic in nature. Glorified legendaries.

                      • ill be more then happy with the nothing manacles as is. i love the scatter grenade and love having 2 of them even more. call me crazy, but ill personally take the skull over obsidian. obsidian is undeniably powerful but for nova bombs. the skull brings together all the pieces of skill tree to make a synergistically devastating void walking death machine.

                        • I actually think the new perk has a lot of promise. In PvE, I mainly use OM/BJ with scatter, shatter, and bloom. Simply giving scatter two charges wouldn't be enough. The tracking changes things though. Many times I have missed only one or two children grenades (git gud, I know...) and left the enemy with a sliver of health where they would have died if all the children had hit them. The tracking will make up for that. Plus, scatter grenades can now be used on a single enemy for guaranteed spike damage, like Wolfpack rounds. I can't say that I will use them over my Obsidian Mind, but I do know that tracking scatter + annihilate + bloom will cause a lot of additional damage. Pair them with a helm that had grenade kills replenish super energy, you get some of the lost super energy back. You might not get a half a bar immediately, but if you use those scatter grenades appropriately with a bad juju, you could probably still wreck. I might be more interested in these with the new perk actually. As much as a shield would have been cool, it only worked on kill. I already use surge because higher level enemies often don't die with melee hits. I probably wouldn't have used the manacles with the old perk. I may actually use them now.

                        • I am a voidwalker that loves scatter grenade in pve. If placed just right it might as well be another nova bomb especially when paired with annihilate and bloom. Even I though, a person who loves that grenade, sees little value in taking that gear choice over obsidian mind. I also agree that when it would give you a shield... I thought that was awesome. I still wouldn't take it but thought about it for a while.
