LA raised minimum wage to $15

Somehow I don't think McDonalds will be happy to pay a crew worker $15 an hour. Do you think this was a good move?

    • Its not really a good move because then the prices of just about everything there are gonna raise, which sucks for the people making more than the minimum wage.

    • We are in the process of getting the same thing in Alberta. And it won't matter companies like mcdonalds go across the whole world, paying 15 dollars an hour to people in one state isn't going to affect their profits.

A $1 more an hour than what I make and I had to take a state certification course, pass state exam and get a chauffeurs license for my job. But seriously good for them... At least for a few weeks/months until inflation catches up.

      • Raising minimum wage is not necessarily a good thing. Think of it as one big pie - if we make the slices bigger less people get the pie resulting in less jobs and small businesses going bankrupt.

They're trying to keep up with inflation and the devaluing of their wages. $15/hour is worth less than minimum wage was pretty much since it was established in the early 1900s. $8/hour is worth less than half of the minimum wage in the 60s. What's actually been happening is people are being paid less and less for their work, and the minimum wage raise is only an attempt to correct that. A faulty attempt, and it isn't ultimately possible to correct, but an attempt, nonetheless.

          • People are going to lose their jobs by the boatload, and prices are gonna hella skyrocket, minimum wage is supposed to be entry level jobs, not a wage to live off of, that's why it was made.

                    • No. Those jobs are meant for starting off. Its good for kids trying to get jobs but with higher minimum wage, companies cant afford as many employees so they cant start small. Also unemployment will go up. And those jobs are not for living off it your whole life. Also small businesses will be screwed.

                      • Oh boy, inflation! Wages are like fractions. Whatever you do to the bottom, you have to do to the top. There is no real result. Any change in the bottom makes its way up to the top. There is no difference other than the psychosomatic fallacy that you are getting any more money than you did before. Now your money is worth less. Way to go!

How about people get an education and go get a real job rather than trying to fund their lives off of a job at McDonald's? Flipping burgers and dealing with people's bullshit isn't worth $15 an hour.

                          • Nope. I live in NY so this won't affect me, but nobody should be paid $15 per hour for mopping McDonald's floors
