On the subject of the scout rifle look at the p90 that will explain the mechinacs as the rounds in that are side on in the mag which is on top of the barrel and are flipped into position on firing. The hand cannons are like the matador, and the desigb does have advantages, lower center of gravity being one. The hammer could strike a cam underneath to compact the design slightly.
