The P90 comparison is shaky.
The hammer striking a cam to fire a round underneath is just... superfluous design at best... and a recipe for poor reliability and high rates of failure at worst.
the most likely logic is that it does work the same as the Chiappa Rhino, but that makes the hammer exist for show, which it obviously does not, at least in the case of The Last Word, which has the same stupid design.

The p90 is simply the only one I could think of at the time the concept was what I was getting at that the magazine doesn't necessarily need to be inline with the chamber for a round to be loaded. As for the cam the hammer is a cam itself adding an extra one simply changes the direction of travel yes its more complex but being as we are talking "smart matter" the cams could be any material including diamond so failure is less likely.

Even with a Rhino design the hammer would be a sort of spring for the can, not just for show...damn you are dense...

No, on the Rhino, the hammer cocks the weapon. It doesn't FIRE the weapon. There's a huge difference.

Didn't say it fired the weapon.. And on The Last Word your Guardian holds down the trigger enabling the weapon to be fired while the hammer activates the firing pin...
