The grimoire story tells you why that's possible. There is no reason that a bullet would be able to leave these guns. It doesn't bother me too much but it does appear the weapon designer has no real cares about making the guns look right. It doesn't just not make sense from a functionality stand point it makes most of the hand cannons look really ugly.
