People shouldn't throw around words that aren't taught to them correctly. A theory has been tested and widely accepted. That's why you have the theory of gravity, not the law of gravity. We all know that gravity is real, and exists. Everyone and everything is subject to gravity every single day, but no one calls it the law of gravity. It's widely accepted and tested as a theory. Gravity is a fact of life, but it isn't called the fact of gravity.
In high school, we were taught that a theory is essentially a stronger version of a hypothesis. I found it to be bullshit that high school was teaching kids the incorrect material, and I'm glad that a higher education institution taught science correctly.
