Chapter Four: Faded Light
The air was cold, the moisture on the verge of freezing. The stone hardened as if in anticipation of what was there. The pitch black seemed to darken, pulling Mar in. Thick Talons scrapped the rock, scarring them. Mar felt the warm and moist breath of something fall over him. Scales brushed against the walls, echoing through the room.
Mar knew there was a beast before him, he knew not what it was. Mar backed up towards where he came. The moisture had frozen, causing Mar to slip and crash into the rock beneath him. He scrambled backwards and leaned against a wall, not sure what to do. His ghost remained silent, frozen in fear as well. Then the voice rang out again.
“Child, do not be afraid. I do not wish to harm you, I am in need of your help. There is a spark within you, young one. It is what I need.”
Mar tried to process what this beast was saying. He could not think of what it meant.
“What.. What do you mean?”
The Deep voice shook the rocks in a cruel laughter. “Your mind is not closed child. You can see what others cannot. I need that. I have lost something, it was ripped from me. I need it back. I need you to find it.”
Once again Mar was lost by its words. “Why me? Why do need me to do it? You seem to be wiser then I, you tricked me in here. Why can you not retrieve it?”
The voice shifted in the cave. “Because I cannot see it. Though wise I am, I cannot see the way to what I am in need of. My mind is set in its way. Your mind however, it is free. You can see the way, you can find it. You must find it and bring it back to me.”
Mar felt more comfortable now, he stood before the voice. “Why should I? I do not know you, I do not know if you are telling me the truth, or lies. Why should I find what you have lost?”
The Beast shifted once again, settling low on the rocks. “It is your choice, to believe me or not. I once wandered into this cave, and the passage in was clear. Then this place, this darkness, It took it from me. It ripped it from my grasp. Now the passage out is lost to me. So if you wish to free me, and be free yourself, you must find this for me.”
