For me, whether or not "they look cool" depends on whether or not they look functional. Hawkmoon, for instance, "looks cool". Something like the Nechrochasm has no real-world comparison, so I can accept that space magic means "it just works"... but for the weapons that DO have real-world counterparts (such as the hand cannons all being based on modern revolvers), then I expect the same care and attention to detail that went into showing hammer and squeeze animations for lightly depressing the trigger on those very same hand cannons, to also be included in their overall design.
