Although many people had preferred the original effect datamined from The Nothing Manacles, The Cold Equation (void ability kills grant a shield) don't be fooled into thinking that these gloves are "nerfed" in any way.
In fact, they're as good, if not better.
Aesthetically, the Nothing Manacles resemble the Sunbreakers, giving a purple aura with crackling lightning to your forearms. It's very original, yet also quite entrancing. There's just something about seeing purple glowing arms on a Voidwalker that says "death is coming, you'd better run." Personally, i love the look.
The gloves stress the use of grenades to the tee, giving Energy Projection and Innervation, which increases throwing distance while using orbs of light to drastically reduce grenade cooldown. Paired with a helmet with Serpent's tail, nearly everything you will do will give you a grenade back in no time.
The exotic perk, "Scatter Charge" could have used a more fearsome name, in spite of the fact that this perk ROCKS. Not only do you get 2 scatter grenades, but they now work in the same way as a swarm grenade -only much stronger. PvE wise, a single greande can deicmate or even kill tier-2 enemies from full health. PvP wise, throwing this grenade close enough to a single opponent is an automatic death sentence, as these grenades used to do massive damage before, while still missing with a few of the fragments. Now, those remaining few escaping fragments can tip the scales and push a person's health to zero.
Paired with Bloom and Annihilate, these gloves can turn each scatter grenade into a mini Nova Bomb, capable of eradicating rooms or hallways, or clustered enemies. While testing in the Nexus Strike, my wife tossed a grenade into the room on the right side of the first area, wiping out 8 of the 9 enemies inside.
Another alternative playstyle would be to use The Hunger alongside Embrace the Void, which practically makes it impossible to be without a grenade. By the time you've used both up, your Energy Drain effect will have almost completely recharged one for you. Then, let's not forget you still have your Energy Drain and Nova Bomb to proc Embrace too.
Overall, these gloves are quite fearsome, and absolutely define the Warlock's prime role: grenadier. So come on Guardians, join me within the power of Nothingness.
