I don't consider myself to have a religion as such but I think the closest I could explain is I am Ásatrú with a belief in the gods with scientific values rather than as people. Basically I'm pagan. My question to you is how can you follow a 'God' who lets children (even babies) die of horrible diseaeses and illnesses when they haven't even lived a life yet?

  • I believe that everything happens for a reason. And there could be a million different answers to that. One could be that it was caused by another human whom, within choice of his or her own freewill, decided to kill that child or baby. Or maybe the child or baby was ultimately born into a life that God couldn't stand watching the suffering that he or she would endure throughout their life and decides to end it prematurely while they are still young. God works in mysterious ways and I think that it is simply one of those things we can't understand until we can ask him ourselves.Or it could be the works of Satan and his demons. He could targeting a family and place the disease among the child and cause them suffering and death in order to dismantle and destroy the family all together.

  • Good answer, however, why would 'God' then have created humans to suffer in the first place if through no fault of their own? And if he does it to a family - is that not wrath? A deadly sin performed by 'God' himself? But I would also like to know your opinions on this: if 'Satan' punishes the wicked then is he not doing good? And if 'God' forgives all no matter what (I.e. murderers/rapists) is he then not doing bad? Also how do you feel about the fact that the bible which Christians read today is a much shortened version of the original text? How can you read a book which has been changed by men and still think it's the work of 'God'?

  • For your first question, I simply don't have an answer. I'm left wondering why things happen the way they do sometimes myself. I simply accept that it's out of my control and that wherever that child or baby is now, it is much better off than living on this world. Even God says in the bible that a baby who dies before it is born is better off than someone who has to live and suffer living on Earth. God can control and do anything, but he gave us free will, so he simply doesn't interfere with those who don't want to be interfered with. I believe that he on;y interferes for the better or protection of others. I'm iffy on Satan punishing the wicked. God knows how Hell compares to Heaven and the difference is that you will suffer for eternity instead of spending eternity in paradise. Hell is described throughout the bible on many occasions. I think Satan tries to trick people into thinking otherwise though. God is forgiving, but he isn't fooled by someone who doesn't truly want to be forgiven and repent of the sins they have committed. If they don't truly know God or want forgiveness and simply try to say "Sorry, won't do it again" then he will simply reply "Sorry, I don't know you." I believe their may still even be parts of the bible that were written long ago intended to be part of the final version that e simply haven't come across yet. I think God has only allowed man to "change" the bible enough for it to still tell the story he wants to be told. Somethings may have been left out but I don't believe they cause the literature to swerve off in a different direction or anything like that. God chose those whom he chose specifically and precisely. More than 40 authors actually. It would probably be incredible to read a bible from a thousand years ago. The language would be so much different. That's why you have to be careful deciphering some of the things the Bible describes.

  • Ok, I will leave to baby/illness topic. I'm satisfied with your answer :) As for 'Satan', I'm not Christian and as much as I understand your view point, I still disagree with it. I dislike that the Christian 'Satan' is depicted with horns as its the result of Christians idenitfiying the pagan horned-God as the devil, simply because the people who worshipped him were not Christian (I know this is a long time ago though and do not blame you). But also, could one not live a life as written in the bible, without having ever read it, and so be sent to 'hell' for simply not believing and worshipping 'God'? Doesn't seem like a nice thing... And I just think the bible of a thousand years ago is the TRUE bible and so any change would just be an insult to 'God'. Unless you believe your 'God' truely chooses people - even though the pope is elected, by men.? Just one thing - I appreciate your faith, do you appreciate mine? I will never be Christian, so in your eyes am I wicked and will go to hell?
