Last time I checked the weapons in Destiny don't fire actual bullets, they fire condensed superheated polymer rounds. The ammo is fed into a reactor witch superheats and propels the round. Weapons in Destiny need to function in any atmosphere, standard ballistics won't work. Read some Grimoire cards and most things will make sense.

  • Pretty sure only Hard Light shoots those rounds.

  • Didn't know this myself, that's pretty cool.

  • This thread isn't about the ammo they fire, it's about the design of the weapons being incorrect when compared to the real-world counterparts they're based off of. You might say "well they're only designed that way because they look cool" or whatever... but I would argue that it doesn't look cool if the thing designed to look like something else purely for aesthetic purposes, inaccurately represents the parent item.

  • So basically what you're saying is that you've decided it's all wrong therefore it is despite the fact that there is actually an explanation? Awesome

  • Special pleading isn't an explanation, it's special pleading.

  • Well no its not, you're working off the incorrect assumption that the guns in Destiny work the same as guns in real life which is clearly not the case. This dude gave you an explanation which basically makes your entire post irrelevant and you dismiss him. Sorry dude but that's pretty -blam!-ing pathetic

  • The guns are designed to look like real-world weapons in most cases. This is what I'm talking about. You don't get to shift the conversation to a different topic (fantasy mechanics), and then declare yourself the winner of a previous argument. It doesn't work that way. It doesn't make my post irrelevant at all. Special pleading is pathetic.

  • Aside from the fact that pretty much your entire post is based around the way today's weapons work.......

  • But they're not. They're fantasy weapons that have been given a passing resemblance to modern day weapons to make them more recognisable. You can't just refuse to acknowledge that 1)they're not real 2)they're based on technology that doesn't exist 3)your understanding of said fantasy technology is seemingly non existent Apparently your whole argument is that guns exist therefore these should operate the same as the guns we have because they look similar. That's beyond ridiculous and quite frankly the kind of argument I'd expect to hear from my 10 year old autistic son

  • http://www.cthreepo.com/writing/laws/ As a side note... I'm inclined to believe you do not, in fact, have an autistic son. As no parent I've ever met would ever use their handicapped child as an insult in an argument. Shame on you.

  • I've seen you post that on several replies and I'm interested to know how it actually helps your argument in any way? Please do enlighten. Also, as a side note - wasn't an insult, common knowledge that people on the spectrum struggle to recognise any viewpoint outwith their own and have difficulty separating aspects of fantasy from reality.

  • Try reading #7. Beyond that, I can't help you. It would likely take far more time than I'm willing to spend educating someone that refuses to listen in the first place.

  • Well there you go, very first line kind of -blam!-s it for you. These rules that you're so proud to quote relate entirely to science fiction. Destiny is not what one would call science fiction. It has space magic, time travelling robots and the undead to name but a few things. It would more accurately be described as "Futuristic Fantasy" sadly for you, your rules do not apply. "Magical powers like telepathy, visions of the future or communication with the dead are not scientific and not Science Fiction, and they should not be classified as Fantasy" That's a quote from your precious article in case you missed it ☺

  • Wrong. I'm not the one saying that because impossible things exist, all things get a pass on being impossible. That's you, friend. As well as all of the others who have tried to use that non-argument in lieu of a valid one.

  • No, instead you've assumed that as guns function as they currently do then they must always function that way which is a fallacy in itself You really need to stop posting links that work against you

  • When they are directly based on existing firearms, they do. You're being deliberately obtuse.

  • But they're not (for the second time) they are fantasy weapons. They don't exist. They're nor real. They employ fictional technology. They are no more based on today's guns as my lightsaber lamp is based on an actual lightsaber.

They aren't fantasy just because you decided to label them fantasy in an attempt to circumvent the point. Again with that special pleading you love so much... Ice Breaker is fantasy. The Vex Mythoclast is fantasy. The Nechrochasm is fantasy. These weapons have no basis in reality. At all. None. They aren't even designed to look like feasible weapons. The rest are the antithesis of fantasy. They are designed based on modern firearms. The Hand cannons are obviously based on modern revolves, the MGs based on modern LMGs, the shotguns based on modern shotguns. This places them in the sci-fi category. You can sit there shaking your head and saying "nuh uh!" all you want, but you're wrong. Period. End of story.

Kind of brings us back to the whole "they don't shoot bullets" thing though so yeah they're fantasy, in a fantasy world, with fantasy undead people fighting time travelling robots. The Destiny universe is not based in fact. I don't get how that is so hard for you to understand. I have a pretty good idea mind you but that's another story altogether
