I want to breakdown the perspective of loot tables. Please keep in mind that I am a fairly well rounded player. 4 days in strikes, 4 days in raids, 3 days patrol, and 3 days in crucible. I would actually go so far to say that I play PvE 80% of the time. So I'm not a PvP player.
PvP Loot:
Random Drops: Exotics have been a rare drop in general PvP (non-event playlists). They are there, but I can count on one hand how many I have. Note that only recently did legendary items start to drop.
IB drops: Iron Banner has the small chance to drop legendary IB gear.
IB Vendor: As you rank up in IB you unlock rewards. What's the catch? They are set rewards until the next month. So as weapons go, it's not worth grinding out on all three characters for a weapon. Do it once and done.
ToO Brother Vance: Brother Vance offers two legendary items guaranteed. 1 armor piece, and 1 weapon. On top of that he offers a silver and gold package. These have a legendary weapon in them, with a chance of exotic.
ToO Flawless: Exotic weapon, ONLY elemental primary awarded for a PvP event.
PvE Loot:
Nightfall : Has a very high chance of legendary weapon, and a high chance for an exotic piece.
Xur: Why do I list Xur here? Simple, Weekly Heroic offers 9 strange coins. You are guaranteed an exotic every few weeks for how little effort is put in. If you have 3 characters that run it, that's an exotic each week.
Engrams: Where legendary engrams are not common, and exotics from them are even more scarce, they are still a way. Couple that with using them to upgrade the cryptarch, and bam, you have a viable (yet inefficient method to earning legendaries. All hail the loot cave)
VoG Normal: Raid gear and non-primary weapons can be found here. Quite frequently
VoG Hard: Raid gear and non-primary weapons can be found here. Quite frequently. And elemental primaries can be found here.
Crota's End Normal: All checkpoints can award armor, kill crota can award special and heavy weapons.
Crota's End Hard: All checkpoints award can ward armor, all check points can award an elemental primary.
Author's Note: Why did I separate normal mode from hard mode? Simple, different loot tables.
Prison of Elders: If you have a treasure key, loot here is more respectable.
PoE Vendor: 1 armor piece, and 1 weapon for sale. Also can have a chance of getting a weapon or armor piece also.
Overall I feel like PvE content has many more ways to get decent loot as compared to PvP. Even with the addition of ToO, PvP still lags behind PvE.
