Thorn is much better than every single weapon in pvp and if you believe in a balanced pvp you should want a nerf. If u don't tell me why. Please have well though out answers and no shit like 'git gud'. Be sensible
Edit: please try be constructive. I want this to be a discussion not people crying and moaning everywhere

I'm sorry, but if people can't counter Thorn, it is their own fault! I ran IB with the Hygiea Noblesse (331) with explosive rounds & firefly and out gunned Thorn users. Trust me, I am not skilled in PvP; I only run PvP for bounties or IB and I was able to keep my K/D above a 1.0 in almost all games (some dipped when I was distracted by my kids others jumped to 2.8 or better). Everyone screams for a Nerf when they don't have the gun or they assume they should have won because their gun should have been better. IT'S NOT THE GUN THAT WINS, IT'S THE PLAYER USING IT!
-
I love the gun. Because I suck at Crucible, it really helps me improve. Also, I don't want it to be nerfed like the Suros. Because then Bungie will nerf it, make it useless, then move on to, say, Gjallahorn.
-
It needs a change.. But not overkill at don't want another suros vex... Issue... Just make the poison stop if the wielder dies.. End of story. That's all it takes to make it balanced
-
There is no reason to ever nerf weapons (well sometimes). buffing other weapons up to the level of the "op" weapon is a far better option. Bring back auto rifles and thorn will no longer be used as much.
-
They wont just nerf thorn they will nerf all hand cannons then it will be pulse and scout until someone starts complaining about another exotic till all weapons are completely useless.. Gj whinners
-
The only way to actually nerf it without -blam!-ing it up is making the dot tick for slightly less damage.

Edited by Mr_Haad: 6/4/2015 2:37:40 PMI voted other. Initially Thorn was useless(I got mines in Late October 2014). I found it useful only in the hands of a Gunslinger Hunter or a Defender Titan(strength build/war machine). Took forever to reload and I believe it had only 6 or 7 in the clip. Bungie actually fixed it. I have no issues with it. I suck at PvP. It is used a lot in PvP. But there are ways to counter it. Particularly the weapons that drop from Crucible matches or the Crucible vendor weapons. They are quite effective. EDIT If you like scout rifles it's worth the grind to get Gheleons Demise from Iron Banner.
-
How about we keep all the damage the same and slow down the fire rate? It would still be better than Timurs lash, and far more on par with things like red death.
-
The only complaint I have with the gun is its staggering ability and effect that shows up on the screen when you get hit by it. That makes it very hard to recover and return fire.
-
I see a lot of people using it, but I don't die from it that often. It's actually a rather weak hand cannon compared to the other commonly used ones (Last Word, Hawkmoon). It's more common for me to get mopped up by a Thorn user's teammate since the poison effect prevents the shield from regenerating for a couple extra seconds. Hand cannons in general seem to be very common in the crucible, and those who are skilled with them are obviously going to perform better than those who aren't. I prefer the Hawkmoon, personally, though I only use it on close quarters maps - most games I run a scout rifle and am able to take down many a Thorn user with it.
-
"For my reasonable discussion, let's start it with a biased poll"
-
It's only really annoying and a problem when the majority or a whole team run with it. Then they'll just spam shots and kill by DoT. Dying by Thorn in 1v1l engagements isn't a problem. If people are good with it and take me out before I can hit my shots, so be it. When 3 or 4 snipe across the map to try and DoT everybody., well this is where Thorn becomes the bane of crucible/iron banner
-
The Thorn is fine. If I ever get shot by one, I immediately rush for cover and put distance between us, then pull out my MIDA or a sniper and kill them. It's only ever in team fights where I'll die to a Thorn, and it's almost never the DoT. The people crying for Thorn nerfs are the same people that caused the SUROS Regime to disappear from the game: whiners.
-
Thorn hawk moon and the last word nerf them to where they hit like auto rifles do now and then make scout rifles hit like the hand guns did before the nerf
-
It's a unique gun that every player gets the chance to earn. It doesn't come from the lighthouse, it doesn't come from Hard Crota or VoG, it isn't sold by Xur, it's a missive. Run enough bounties and you'll get the chance to earn one. Nerf it and what happens? Another gun takes it place. Then everyone will want that nerfed, and then the next, and so on. Unnerf autorifles is my answer, but then everyone will complain about Suros again.
-
On average, 1-2 people use thorn a game(per team). Not that big of a problem. If you nerf thorn people go to red death then to last word etc. then all we have is a bunch of shitty guns that would only lead to the whole gun class getting nerfed. If everyone started killing you with NLB you'd want that to be nerfed as well. And no matter how much you say it, hand cannons are still the hardest primary to use. So, to use it effectively you have to have some skill.
-
Just buff the autos and you can keep thorn the same.
-
I come from the gaming age where if something kept stomping you, you changed your strategy until you find something that worked. I still feel the same way today.
-
Reduce rof Make dot random just for 3 bullets Reduce range Change send it to something else If the user dies the dot stops.

Edited by WarpPigeon: 6/4/2015 1:21:32 PMwhy you ask:
Balance is not about everyone being equal, but rather that not everybody is doing the exact same thing. If everyone is doing the same exact thing, something is not balanced. Everybody is trying to pursue the same unbalanced thing.
because thorn is essentially what they tried to eliminate with the original assault rifle nerf. of course this argument can go both ways. i dont use thorn every map i only use it for the right map otherwise i may go hawkmoon, midamultitool or bad juju (if i had red death probably that) but in essence, it is commonly used, the question is: Is it too commonly used for bungies tastes? i dont see many people wielding it in pve. So for me the problem is the pvp power. and why is it powerful? head to head / toe to toe its time to kill is less than other guns unless you hit the head which is true of all hand cannons. but its main benefit is it allows people to do damage on a target. hide away,no risk of the enemy regen, get more damage then shoot again to refresh the tick. which is great if you can get a headshot. Also you can track enemies by the dot tick showing their location. i think removing the dot would help but would lose some of its charm. I'd suggest they already tweaked the thorn to buff it its unlikely to get a nerf anytime soon and how to nerf it is the question no one want it to be useless again.
-
All games have certain weapons that are designed to be slightly more powerful than all others.
-
I'm not saying it shouldn't be nerfed. I'm saying under no circumstance should the community be in charge of how it should be nerfed.
-
I love hate mail about my thorn! To people who say it's my crutch! Look at my hunters pvp score and that's with a pistol and shot gun.
-
Edited by CarpentryHero: 6/4/2015 1:46:49 PMIt is balanced, people just don't like burning out. Of the exotic HandCannons, it's the slowest two headshot kill of the bunch. Giving the player time to get to where he can be revived safely in ToO Now if you are putting three bullets in to kill, that puts the TTK within milliseconds of legendaries, like TimursLash and illwill Also now the Ram helmet ads 14% armour you can survive those two headshots.
-
There's ways around thorn. You just have to find what suits your play style best. Anything can "out-kill" thorn and they also have more utility.
-
I can see from the comments here people want to turn it in to a legendary HC. Great lets just take the exotics out of crucible then. Lame ass crybabies.
