Constructive: yes, Thorn is powerful but has counters. It is more about Hand Cannons in general. The problem is, Bungie does a poor job addressing a balance issue. They would end up ruing all Hand Cannons, much like they did to Auto Rifles. If Auto Rifles were buffed back up a bit it would balance things out considerably. Nerfing does nothing but hurt things. Bringing the other weapons up a bit to be more in line with them would work alot better. Yes I have a Thorn but do not entirely rely on it. I also use Hawkmoon, Red Death, and Mida Multi-Tool as primaries.
