Hawkmoon is Born.
A Fan-Fiction by Mungnum
“Icarus” Theodore said to his assistant
“Yes, sir” Icarus responded
“Begin a recording for my journal” He began.
“Right away sir.” Icarus stated.
“This is Captain Theodore de Croismare, a hunter for the Order of the Hawk. I was sent on project "Migration”. This expedition’s purpose, was for our order to seek out shelter on the moon. I am sitting at Sierra base at the Anchor of Light located in the heart of the fallen territory. In short, Migration is a failure. There are plenty of habitable structures, but there is also hostile life. The Hive grow within the pits of the moon. The fallen walk the surface in search of light. Fallen skiffs fly overhead watching and sending in captain after captain.
On arrival, my crew was met with darkness. Libertus, a warlock scholar, died first. We had just reached the top a hill revealing a clearing. Although it was free of hills, it was far from clear of life. Libertus was shot by a vandal sniper before we even registered that enemies were scattered across the ladscape. Loramendi, Tirrell, Lord Yribarren and one of our scouts: Pheonix-138; perished at that god-forsaken clearing.
The last of us ran out to a bowl-shaped area with a large black hive entrance to a dark castle of shadows. David Rosenwen went into the hive fort in search of shelter.
He came out, after 2 days with a satchel around his back. He was bruised and beaten but he managed to hand the bag to me before collapsing to his knees.I opened it only to be blinded by a mysterious light. It was a hand-cannon, changing and then re-changing again. Suddenly a Hive wave of thralls ran out of the doorway and grabbed David's screaming body. They dragged him back into the green mist with him kicking and prying at their hands. Lingshay-23 pulled me back from the scene as Icarus kept the hive at bay with a few pulse-rifle bursts. David's screams echoed through the area and were eventually silenced by the deep pits of the hive. He is presumed dead.
We ventured back to the anchor of light and hid inside the Sierra base. Sadly, I don't think I'll make it out of this shithole. All of the doors are locked, but the fallen still slam their fists on the walls and curse at me in their tongue. I haven’t much time to live, so I’ll detail the mission’s report.
Casualties: Libertus Kessler, Loramendi Ciottone, Tirrell Berkhoven, Lord Yribarren and Phoenix-138.
Survivors: Icarus Fauner, Lingshay-23, and myself.
Missing: David Rosinwen
Inventory:
An old hand-cannon.
-notes: I have tried to pick it up but it is too hot to touch. The surface of it is molten spinmetal but it is somehow staying contained. It is emitting a blinding light and seems to be reforming into different sorts of weaponry.
Mission Status: Failure
-details: habitable structure found, but too much darkness for any amount of guardians to survive.--” The captain was cut off by the sound of his assistant rushing in.
“Sir, Lingshay-23 has reported a ketch flying into orbit.” Icarus reported
“So? Hundreds fly by every day.” Theodore remarked
“Sir, you misunderstand. This ketch is carrying a walker, and it’s heading right for us.” He said grimly
“Shit…” The captain said getting up.
*Rustling, sound of running.
“Where are you going, Captain?” Icarus called out
“To the armory, dumbass, where the hell else would I go?” He asked rhetorically.
A loud sound of metal bending and metal scratching is heard.
“Icarus! The artifact is taking on a stable form! It’s light is dimming, and its exterior is cooling. I can make out a slight silhouette of it's shape. The sight is beginning to point up like wings. The grip has a talon mounted on the end. There is a carving of three feathers displayed on the barrel. I have never seen anything like it befo-.” Captain de Croismare was cut off by a crashing sound.
“Sir, the walker has touched ground, there is no time to study!” Icarus reported.
"Just hold one minute!" the captain yelled "The gun has cooled completely."
Theodore looked at the beauteous gun forged in-front of his eyes and turned to face Icarus.
"Death knocks on our door, Icarus." He began "But we're holding aces up our sleeves. This gun's power is pure, but also deadly. It draws light from our order. It draws darkness from the deepest pits of the moon. It's form is that of good and evil. But it's form is that of Justice. It's form is that of: The Hawkmoon."
