It's comparable to other hand cannons in game and has its pro's and cons like other weapons choices imo. The most dangerous aspect to thorn for me is the DoT that ticks health away and there are things like the warlock flame shield, titan bubble and red death/suros perks that can counter the Thorn DoT. Hawkmoon has a chance to one shot kill people, and other hand cannons are usually 2-3 headshot kills. I don't understand these threads that call for a nerf to certain widely used weapons. It would be more constructive to start a thread on how to counter said weapon more effectively. Also, OP asks for a reasonable discussion however the poll choices are very biased against people who would disagree with a nerf.

  • No legendary hand cannon is a 2-shot headshot, unless you use luck in the chamber and final round. But one is random, and the other is a risk taker.

  • Any high impact hand Cannon, such as timurs lash, is a two head shot kill with just luck in the chamber

  • Ya, but TLW (hipfire) and Thorn are always a two-headshot kill.

  • This might be true but then you are comparing thorn, hawkmoon et al to legendaries when they are exotics.

  • As Bungie has stated, exotics aren't meant to be more powerful than other weapons. There just supposed to be unique.

  • Without getting into an argument about semantics, I don't think they are more powerful in terms of raw power. I do think they are more powerful in terms unique perks and I think they should be that way. If you could re-roll any legendary hand cannon and get the DoT that thorn has, would everyone complain about the thorn, or the perk?

Both. The Thorn has multiple problems. I've never used mine in PvP, so excuse me if I'm wrong, but from what I've seen, it has an astounding RoF, and pretty good stability. And don't even get me started on the sniper-like range.

  • The range was nerfed slightly. As far as rate of fire and stability goes, TLW has the same rate of fire and greater stability.

  • I wish I had more experience with the Thorn so that I may further support my claim, but unfortunately I will never pick up that weapon for PvP. I'm not saying that you won, but you clearly know more about the weapon than I do. The Thorn is OP and deserves a nerf. Whether it be its base stats or its exotic perk, it is much better than most weapons in the game.

  • To be honest, i prefer TLW for PvP but thats just based on my playstyle. I just don't understand people calling for a nerf. You should try and pick it up though and form your own opinion on it. You might like it.

  • I have used TLW before. I still use it, but very very rarely. Only when I'm really desperate. I'm not a huge fan of it, because I don't practice with it much. But in a skilled hand, this gun is a beast.
