I believe vault space is limited because the data is stored on THEIR servers. I know data storage is fairly inexpensive these days, but doubling or tripling vault space over 10 million people adds up to a pretty hefty penny.

Considering the actual data size per item is just a database reference number, not more than 500kb per item.
