[The Iron Age] Chapter Three: The Hunt Pt. 2

Ana dove behind a snow drift next to Phoenix’s corpse as another wire shot ripped through the air. “Pack! Fallen at two o’clock! Top of the roof! Suppressive fire!” Ana shouted commands rapidly. She drew her own scout rifle, Lady Luck, and fired off a few shots at the Baron. The rest of the Pack quickly found cover behind snow drifts and the half-buried frames of ancient cars. While everyone else kept the Fallen from making any accurate shots, Ana crawled through the powdery snow to Phoenix’s side. His ghost had appeared and was repairing Phoenix’s shattered head as best as it could. “Ash, how long is it going to take for you to get him up and running again?” Ana asked the ghost. “Ms. Bray, I don’t know if Phoenix will be running at all. I can put the Light back into his body, but this head wound is extremely severe.” The ghost told her, it’s robotic voice deep and serious. “He needs to get back to the Tower and needs to see an exo-surgeon ASAP. Otherwise, he’ll be uneffective for combat.” Ana swore under her breath but nodded. “Okay, well can you at least get him conscious again?” The ghost flickered in the affirmative and Ana threw the metal shell of her friend over her shoulder. “Sage, Regus, continue suppressing the Fallen. Tiger, Zoa, make sure the path to the building at 10 o’clock is clear.” She heard a few scuffling noises through the headset that the Pack used to communicate and then a woman’s voice. “Clear. I’m in the building, Tiger will cover your six. Ready on your mark.” “Mark.” Ana took off in a sprint for the small burnt out husk of the chosen building. A wire shot flew over her head close enough that she could feel the static through her helmet. She kept moving though, never breaking tempo. As soon as she reached the door to enter the building, an exo moved behind her and followed her in. “Sage, Regus, get in here. We need to figure out a plan.” Ana sat Phoenix down on the floor. Ash continued to flicker and hover around his Guardian’s body, doing his best to bring him back to life. Ana waited until a female and a male hunter walked through the door before she started talking. “Okay, let’s go over what we know. Phoenix is down, and, according to Ash, he won’t be combat ready even after he’s revived. The Baron’s found us and he’s probably got more than the small squad we saw with him. So, any ideas on how to handle this?” Ana looked at her fireteam. She trusted all of them with her life and she was more than willing to hear suggestions on how they were going to survive. A small hunter cleared her throat. “Well boss, why don’t we turn the tables on the Baron? Me and Regus can stay here and guard Phoenix in case the Fallen come looking. Meanwhile, you, Zoa, and Tiger can go kill him.” Ana nodded slowly. “Okay, sounds like a good frame for a plan but the specifics would be nice.” Zoa coughed softly and everyone turned towards her. She began speaking. “Well, if the Twins will cover for us, we can sneak around back of the garage and ambush the Baron. We can easily handle any resistance and Barons aren’t that hard for a single Guardian to kill. With the three of us it’ll be a walk in the park.” The rest of the Pack agreed with Zoa. It was a solid plan. “Alright then, let’s get going. No sense in wasting any time.” Ana said. The Pack walked out of the room and into the cold night air. Sage and Regus immediately pulled out their rocket launchers and sent a volley of missiles into the parking garage. Meanwhile, Ana, Zoa, and Tiger raced down the street towards the building. Once they got there, they pressed against the walls and walked around to the back. There, they found two vandals guarding the entrance to the garage. Ana made a small hand gesture and both Zoa and Tiger disappeared. Moments later, ether burst from the vandals necks as a pair of knives slit their throats. Ana moved down the entrance ramp as her companions decloaked behind her. Ana, Zoa, and Tiger reached the bottom of the ramp just as another explosion rocked the garage. “The Twins must really be doing a good job.” Ana said. If Sage and Regus were doing this much damage to the garage, the Fallen would be focused on them and not on the real threat. Ana, Zoa, and Tiger started walked over to the stairwell and started climbing towards the top of the garage. When Ana saw the sign reading tenth floor she kicked open the door and took aim. Right in front of her, back turned as he shot at the Twins along with a dozen vandals, was her target. Ana had to smile at the Baron’s reaction when he turned to look at her. If Fallen had jaws, the Baron’s would have dropped as Ana kneeled and Zoa and Tiger appeared behind her, all with guns drawn. Then, the Baron fell to a hail of bullets. Three Days Later… Ana sat with Cayde-6 at a table in the tower. “So, Phoenix is out of the hospital. The Pack’s back to full strength. You ready for another mission?” Cayde asked her. Ana sighed. “Cayde, most people would ask if Phoenix was okay first.” Cayde shrugged. “I read his discharge papers. The doc gave him a clean bill of health and he got a mind wipe so I’m not worried about psychological problems. He’s fine. But now answer my question.” Ana nodded. “Yeah, we’re ready. What do you need us to do? Kill another Baron? Raid a compound?” Cayde shook his head. “Close but no cigar. No, we’re launching another assault against the Fallen. We are going to burn the Devil’s Ketch and kill their Kell.” Please comment, like, and bump! I hope you enjoyed! Chapter list
