The first book is sort of similar to the movie, with some moderate differences. The second book, "The Lost World" is completely different from the second movie, and I think Spielberg should have followed it more closely. It is a good book (they both are), while the second Jurassic Park movie is complete dog crap. It could have been so good if it had followed the book.
