I can't remember what piece of armor it was off the top of my head, but it was from Xur and he was selling engrams for that same armor (I think it was a helmet and helmet engrams). Bought the armor piece and bought 4 engrams. 3 out of those 4 turned into that same piece I just bought -__-

This is why you always buy the engrams first. Then if you didn't get what you want you could still spend the coins. Of course now notes are probably more valuable than coins so this may not be as valid now. But before HoW that was what I used to do.

Yeah, I learned real fast that if the engrams are the same as a piece of armor I want, I binge on the engrams first. Lol
