Lmao! The heck with y'all. I was born in Houston, lived in Waco, Amarillo, Henderson & next to Ft Hood.
My first "car" was a pick-up truck.
I grew up hunting varmints.
I got guns.
No state income tax.
One of the lowest unemployment rates of the U.S.
One of the best economies in the U.S.
I wear cowboy hats, boots & a big a$$ buckle
I say "ma'am" to the ladies.
I dance the 2-step, cotton-eye Joe, waltz.
I drink Lone Star Beer
I listen to George Strait, Willie & Waylon, Jerry Jeff Walker.
I smoke cigarettes
We got (lots of) oil, cattle, watermelon, cotton
I say "howdy"
I say "y'all"
I measure distance by time (how far to Dallas? 'Bout 2 hours)
I consider myself a Christian and ain't ashamed to admit it
We got forests, prairies, deserts & sandy beaches.
Businesses are moving here because we're more friendly to 'em. Don't tax them to death, few regulations.
People are moving here by the droves! Why?
Texas was admitted to the union by treaty.
I eat apple pie, pecan pie. I eat steak, tacos, catfish, Whataburger, hotdogs, dewberrys, turnip greens, fried taters, grits, corn.
I respect my ma & pa, strict with my kids.
I don't lie.
I don't give a rat's behind what y'all think. Most of ya never been here. So how the heck you KNOW. I have lived in Kansas, California, Colorado, New Jersey, Alabama, Louisiana & Georgia. So, from experience, I can form an opinion.
To quote a famous man: "You all can go to hell; I'm going to Texas!"
PS: if I WERE to hate a state, it would be those on the west coast or New England area with their pre-determined, holier than thou, uppity know it all attitude about Texas and southern states in general.
PSS: we got rodeos going on somewhere all the time. (New Jersey too! Really!)
Adding here: Reading over the comments from fellow Texans, I see there's not too many that meet the stereotypical image dumped on us from others. Not everyone drives a pickup, or says "howdy" or is a "bible thumper" or a conservative or... You get my point. Some do, some don't or a mix of both. Some people say the meanest things out of ignorance by casting the entire people of any state in a bad light.
What I originally said applies to me. I didn't say "we". Ok, so maybe I'm pretty close to being that stereotype, but it doesn't bother me one bit.
Referring to the quote I mentioned, does anyone know who said it?

I'm fine. Not the least bit upset. :D see?

If you were trying to list positives you accidentally added "i smoke cigarettes"
-
I didn't mean to let my pride shine, my intention was to rebut the derogatory stereotypical remarks made by some when this thread first started. I was being open about myself, to include the smoking part. It's a bad habit.
