BF4 was a buggy mess at launch and it took a year and half to finally get the game working like it should with the Spring 2015 Update. I'm starting to get into BF4 again because of the new changes that came with that update.
But I still play BF3 because it's still the best game in the series in my opinion. Sniping at extremely long range is much easier now with Rangefinders, 20x & 40x scopes, and the ability to zero your scope to certain distances. None of that was available in BF3. I should have specified that in my original post. You can zero your scope to 500m in BF4 and not even have to worry about bullet drop at all. So obviously it's easy in BF4 now. In fact, it's too easy and not nearly as rewarding as sniping was in BF3. It took more skill and the highest zoom was only 12x. Even Destiny has scopes with 20x zoom (maybe even more with Custom Optics equipped) and the maps are tiny.

Highest scope zoom is 8x for destiny. Range finders are useless when you've put in a lot of hours as a sniper and learning maps. And zeroing is super easy like you said, but that's actually a real life sniper mechanic. Now I can't remember where I exactly got this info, but "zeroing" IRL, is something along the lines of changing the angle of your scope ever so slightly to help you deal with longer range targets.
