So, for $59.95 I get...

Everything I already own, plus the Taken King ... Or: Buy $59.95 for Destiny - original game Plus $39.95 for expansions I and II Plus $39.95 for The Taken King 'pre-order' -------------------wait for it------------------ That's $140 pretty much for the same thing as noobs can get for $60. Thanks Bungie. I've enjoyed your game. Seriously. It's a lot of fun. I'm not kidding. Check my hours played. More than most, I can assure you that. And, what's my thanks and appreciation for supporting your game along the way? Getting screwed over to the tune of more than DOUBLE THE PRICE that someone will pay today. How the hell does this make sense? You should actually honour your most loyal customers with The Taken King as a FREEBIE, or at the very least , a DEEP Discount. (Maybe $15 instead of $20, but certainly not increase it to $40, that's just plain back-asswards). "Here you go guardian. As a token of our appreciation for sticking with us through the first year, for buying the base game, for getting the first two expansions (which may or may not have been disc-locked content), for playing through the glitches as a live feedback forum for our programming errors, for the buffs and the nerfs you've endured, for the lag and for the heavy ammo we took from you every time you spawned... We would like to present you, as a gift, Your own Edition of The Taken King. I'm not butt-hurt by what's been paid so far. I'm f-ing choked that a newb will get all that and more for $60.00, and that it will cost me another $40 on top of what's already been paid, just to keep up with the BUNDLE-BABIES of 2015. Should be $15 max (free preferred) for the players who already have all the prerequisites. BUMP if you agree with even one part of this. --- out --- EDIT: Geezus. For those of you who agreed, thanks for understanding my point. For the rest, here's an example: You all have cell phones. If you don't, try to imagine having one. Buy the latest phone. Then pay for an upgrade. Then pay for another upgrade. Then pay for another upgrade. Your buddy goes and buys the upgraded upgraded upgraded phone, AND GETS THE ORIGINAL PHONE YOU PAID FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE GIVING TO HIM FOR FREE AS WELL... For less than half the price too!! and as a freaking bonus, he also gets the charger, the headphones, the protective case and limited edition sticker to proudly display on the back of his Kia Soul as well !!!! Does that help even one of you naysayers get it? Edit 2: For those that say "Isn't this how all games do it?", the correct response is (I'll succumb to Godwin's Law for some of this I'm afraid): Did slavery come to an end? Did the holocaust come to an end? Did the USSR come to and end? Did the wall in Germany get torn down? Pick a metaphor... The choice should be your own. Just because that's how it's always been done, simply does not 'de facto' make it right! Edit 3: Your responses have been mixed. Fine. My post will not be all or end all. I appreciate what most of you had to say. For clarity I do not compare the edit 2 metaphors directly to this video game. But, to be offer a piece of advice to those who thought I meant something else: http://www.quotehd.com/imagequotes/TopAuthors/albert-einstein-physicist-insanity-doing-the-same-thing-over-and-over-again-and.jpg I believe that a company this big and profitable can do better than the companies that came before it. There will always be change. Who will do it first? Edit 4: You'll be impressed... I've listened and here is my last ( probably not) contribution to the argument: Bungie can rename the DLC to be $39.95 for the DIGITAL BEND OVER EDITION* for those of you who already have the original game and the first two expansions. We will send your guardian an in-game bottle of lube. It will be waiting for you in the special orders. * There will be no reach-arounds or discounts offered. Edit 5: Please stop buying next year's car at half of last year's pricing!! Edit 6: There were Alpha players There were Beta players Then came Day-1-ers We can call the next gen the 'Vets' Along comes Xmas Noobs Since then we've had a few Kinder-guardians But this latest generation will forever be known as: THE BUNDLE- BABIES I do not take credit for this nickname, the original poster is down there, buried somewhere in the responses to this thread. Go ahead and find him/her, they deserve all the praise. If my post succeeds in nothing else... BUNDLE-BABIES SHALL LIVE ON FOREVER!!!!! Edit 7: Strictly for your entertainment only: https://youtu.be/eOlIZhs0JEg https://youtu.be/1o0Vv8lr41w EDIT 8: Looks like my rant was 'all' right on the mark. The failure on the price point. The failure in exclusive content. The failure on needing to rebuy items I already own. Many Thank to Eurogamer for taking the time to interview Luke Smith, and get to the bottom of all these inequities. We shall see what the weekly update holds for the year-one owners of the game. I bet it's not much!

  • What they should do is make taken king only expansion deluxe edition so all the cool bits and only the tajen king game part so we loyal people can buy that instead of having to buy the first three parts as well

      • Clearly the best way to bring in new players is to charge them $155 dollars. The only gripe that makes sense is the CE stuff is completely wack, being mad that people get a year old game for cheaper doesn't make any sense. World of Warcraft practically gives away old expansions at this point.

          • :-) I agree with you mostly, but they still have to make money in order to continue supporting what they are going to release. I think they should sweeten the pot for the veterans and leave the price the same. I would like to see the option to pay for TTK on the old gen system and get the current gen for free.

          • All these posts are absurd. I've been playing since week 3, I paid $60 for the game and $35 for the expansion pass. That's $95 and I have sunk over 400 hours into the game, sure that's not as much as some people who have 700,800, or 900+ hours of game time, but still $95 for over 400 hours of gameplay is so worth it and I can't believe how blinded most of you are. When batman comes out in less than a week you are paying $60 for the game or $100 for a collectors edition and I bet you don't put more than 75 hours into the game TOPS. That will be it, 75 hours and done. When TTK comes out, I'll spend the $40 for it and I'll be $140 deep into destiny, but TTK will probably also add another few hundred hours to my game time. So $140 for over 600 hours of game play is a great ratio. I have beaten The Last of Us in 3 days (on hard) and paid $60 for that game, I got what? Maybe 20 hours out of it?

          • Since I didn't get house of wolves, I will have to spend the 60. Too bad I do not feel like spending $60, when I've already spent $80. It's not like they are giving me an entire new game. They are finally making my $80 purchase a complete game, but only if I fork over $60 more. I'm not falling for their shallow "addiction" tactics.

          • Stop whining about a game it's a collectors edition meaning it won't be around for long so if you want it go get it but don't whine about your problems on the forums so stop whining and crying in the corner of your room, if your so upset then just don't play the game and stop being a baby

          • Everyone realizes games prices decrease as the game reaches further from its original release date, right.? Destiny is drawing closer to 30 and the expansion pass was 30, Id also like to point out that these people who get all this stuff for cheaper is CUZ it's gonna be sorta obsolete when taken king comes out, anyone who gets the knew game, will have to go through the vanilla game, get enough stuff to do the vog, and the dark below story line, then crota, then house of wolves, and prison of elders, THEN they will be playing the thing they bought originally but it'll be at least a month or two after it released, why are you gonna shit yourself over what you payed verses bungie bringing in new players to the game by making it a bit cheaper than it should be, people whine way too much "this isn't fair wah wah im a little baby who thinks i shoulder be treated fairly" life ain't fair if you don't wanna play the game don't but shut up about it not being fair because there are worse things than you paying a bit more to play a game earlier than anyone who gets this version of the game a year after its already been out

            • I agree it's a douchenozzle business practice, but I'm willing to put up with it if it means I can sink 600+ hours into it like I did before I left. The original 600 I put in in comparison to now were pre Dark Below DLC, just plain old vanilla. So, that's cents on the dollar in money spent, which is what I believe to be well worth it.

It surprises me how often people forget, bungie obviously loves the community and game, but they still need to make money. If anyone can't understand that at this point then that's their fault

                • I feel like I got my money's worth in how much fun I've had with the game thus far. I feel that those new people paying less will grow the community and for that I am happy. I don't waste my energy worrying about what deal they are getting because it will be more people to play with. I also got a year of playtime on the new people coming in. I'll call the extra 80$ a year of early access.

                  • First, your analogy is flawed. More appropriate would be: You bought an iPhone 5 when it was new for $200. A year later your friend buys an iPhone 5s for $150. It has all of the tech of your phone, plus some new bells and whistles, but market pressure and cheaper manufacturing have brought the price down. It is your perception that you got "ripped off" because his superior phone cost less than yours. However, your friend has been durdling around for the last year with a Nokia flip phone while you've been enjoying the functionality of your smartphone. You've gotten value of being the early adopter of the new tech, and your friend is getting the value of you making that tech successful. Next, it is fair to think of The Taken King as Destiny 1.5. To bring new players in a deal must be made, as $40 + $35 + $40 is a large initial investment for a game. Day 1 players, "xmas noobs", etc. have paved the way for Destiny to be successful, and Bungie/Activision are marketing in such a way to continue to grow the brand. Finally, regarding the exotic class items and shaders. The class items give you an XP buff. Big deal, you're already level 20, you have a stockpile of everything. You have great exotic armor that actually does something useful in game, so who exactly is going to be equipping an exotic class item? Oh that's right, new players! Who don't have exotics, who need help getting to 20 (where the real game starts), and who need help accruing materials we've been swimming in since February. Same can be said for the exclusive shaders. Why would I want one that comes with the bargain priced edition when I'm rocking Arctic Proxy, God of War, and Revenant! Shaders I picked up through the endless grind that demonstrates my OG status. Tl; dr: early adopters get value out of beating the crowd; $115 is too steep a pricetag to bring in new blood; exclusive class items and shaders are pointless for established players

As I'm sure many people have said, the reason we're getting "shafted" is because no sane person is going to spend 120 dollars on a game for an initial investment. Every game that has expansions does this to expand their playerbase. Without getting new players eventually the game would die off as everyday current players will be putting the disc away for good. While this DLC may be a bit pricey, if it has enough content to warrant it there's nothing to complain about. We're not getting screwed over, we paid more money for a new product that people can now get for cheaper. There's a reason Blizzard and other successful companies practically give you the old dlcs for their mmos if you buy them now. While not getting the class items is lame and the only fault I currently have with the dlc (mainly since there's no version I can get them in) they're basically worthless to me anyway. I don't want an XP boost to level 20 as I'm already 34. As for the emblems, who wants to wear an emblem a million little taken toddlers will have and be wearing? Plus if you've been playing you should have guns that aren't even in the game anymore like Zombie Apocalypse, the old Felt Winter's, or the ldr (I think, at least I haven't gotten any new ones), armor too if you want to look unique. Tl;Dr Stop feeling entitled to something because you've played a game. Day one players already got the emblems and older guns/gear that you can't get anymore.

                      • Liking destiny doesn't really put you in the 'popular opinion squad' if you know what I am saying. Don't you think 140 is a steep price for a "disappointment" of a game.

So buggy, so glitchy, so many exploits (there are still exploits), so many boots back to orbit or out of the game in general (still happening). Here we still are bungie giving your developers feedback via in game time and forum contribution. I DO NOT i repeat DO NOT want to pay the price of a game for the second half of a split in half content locked sham of a game, just for someone to come along and pay for one whole game with no content locked for half the price of the two games I'm already being told to pay for. • Don't think I will be buying it especially after how my freinds are pretty much sick of destiny now plus the price is ridiculous but we will see. I could buy another another game for that price and dlc as a whole is becoming a mess and it will just turn gamers away in the end plus why does it cost so much? You would have thought that any business looking to sell this would at least make it a suitable price.
