Eugen Stoner designed the M-16...the Air Force adopted it during Vietnam. It uses a direct impingement gas system. The basic nomenclature for it is light weight, shoulder fired, air cooled, gas operated, magazine fed, semi automatic weapon, that fires from the closed bolt position. Yes I know...I have carried one for years, well a version of it anyways.

Oh, man. That's messed up. I agreed to do ROTC for 2nd Lt. I got 8 years after graduation.

I tried for a commissioning program a few years back, I got accepted but there went any slots open that year. If I could go back I wouldn't change a thing. The military paid for my schooling I got a masters degree out of it, two kids born at no charge to me and I've been around the world a few times, lived in some cool places...not to bad from a dumb ass kid from middle of nowhere Tx.
