  • 4, 5, 6 You honestly don't need to bother with the prequels but if you really want to, watch them afterwards

Technically, the best order to watch them in is 4,5 (1,2,3) 6 Since the vader reveal is completely ruined by the prequels, you should watch them as if it's Luke's story up until the end of Empire and then it becomes a massive 3 film flash back that covers vader's backstory/Luke's heritage, then you conclude with 6 and the simultaneous end of both Luke and vader's story.

  • That's a stupid way to ruin the arc of the original trilogy, and needlessly shoehorn 3 awful movies in between.

And get the laser disc version to avoid all of GL's meddling. The prequels are garbage and the entire prequel story was told quite fine by Obi Wan's few sentences of reminiscing.

  • Aye, I'd rather have a good friend (who presumably doesn't murder children pre-dark side) who was seduced (rather than tricked, like in the prequels) to the dark side than what we got.

He doesn't have any good in him and he deserves to die in the end. And you're right, he was supposed to be seduced, not duped. He basically comes off as a selfish, power hungry, creepy, horny, betraying, autistic man-brat that was a bad egg from the word go. Ugh.

I think the machete order is best, though you can only avoid one of the prequels.

  • Just watch them in numerical order, I'd say. Sets things up better and you don't lose some of the interesting revelations.

  • Start with 4-6, then go back and watch 1-3. If you like 2&3 watch the two clone wars series (cartoon and CG)

  • Yup they are the older ones. Also I agree that for the first time you should watch them in this order. Then the second time watch them in chronological order.

New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, don't watch the prequels. Clone Wars cartoon is ok.
