An Ohio police officer accidentally shot a 4-year-old girl in the leg while trying to stop her family's dog from attacking him Friday, authorities said.
Ava Ellis, of Columbus, is expected to make a full recovery, the Columbus Dispatch reported.
The officer, who has not yet been identified, was called over to the girl's house after leaving the home of a neighbor who had earlier been hit by a car, police said. Her aunt screamed that Ava's mom had cut herself and needed assistance, police spokeswoman Denise Alex-Bouzounis told the Dispatch.
When the officer got to the house, a dog charged him, Alex-Bouzounis said. He fired one shot at the dog to make it stop, but the bullet accidentally hit Ava in the right leg.
"She was saying something about 'Why would you try to shoot the dog?' and he said something like the dog was attacking him," neighbor Gary Parsley told 10TV. "Then, she started saying 'You shot my kid!'."
The girl and her mother were transported to the hospital, and the officer was not injured.
The Ellis family has two dogs that wear shock collars, preventing them from leaving the house, neighbor Carrie Britton said.
The officer was a "big guy," Parsley said.
Alex-Bouzounis declined to tell 10TV what size the dog was but said it was a mutt.
A department representative did not immediately respond to the Daily News' request for comment Saturday.
The shooting is an ongoing investigation.
Thanks obama

Holykek. We get the point you don't like cops
-
this story can't be real l/
-
The family runs up to the cop because someone was injured. The cop wasn't even going to their house as the primary call. You can't tell me the family doesn't know the dogs temperament around strangers. The family SHOULD have locked the dog up when inviting a stranger in the house. There is also a lot of info omitted from the article.....like size of the area....how many people were in the room....did the dog charge the officers gun hand/arm....all information that relates to the encounter. Just more media hype over something unfortunate but minor.

Only you would post this...
-
You even quoted it. The bullet accidentally hit her leg. He was defending himself. If you were the cop would you have let that dog attack you?

It's like watching a moth repeatedly flying into a light bulb. You watch it knowing it's an idiot but it keeps on going. Yes, police do dumb shit, I also like animals and I would be more than pissed off if a cop shot my daughter while trying to kill one of my pets. I'd make damn sure he never worked in law enforcement again. That said, if the police went away your country would fall into chaos and end up under martial law.

This guy really needs auto aiming

Edited by steg567: 6/21/2015 2:02:12 PMWait its not like he was trying to shoot the kid, he was trying to stop the dog.

Yeah! Let's get rid of every single cop- oh sorry, I meant "thug" on the street! That way I can get robbed all day long without any help at my disposal! What a marvelous idea!

You're a moron. I knew a guy that kicked a young pit bull in the snout for running at him baring it's teeth like it was going to attack. The owners tried to sue him. They failed. Can you imagine why? If an animal is running at you in a threatening manner, you have the right to defend yourself from said animal. It doesn't matter if the animal is wild, someone's pet, or someone's guard dog. It's still a danger to your life. You make a split second decision to protect your life from an incoming threat. If the mutt that attacked the officer was bigger than the pit bull my friend hit, than a foot to the face wouldn't have done shit. So he shot at it to defend himself. Yes it's sad that the little girl got hit. Yes the officer should get some kind of disciplining for it. But most of the blame should be on the parents. They raised the dog to be an unprovoked danger to outsiders. If you can't let an outsider into your house without the chance that your dog will attack that person unprovoked, then you shouldn't own a dog in the first place.

Just stop is we were in South Africa I would agree with you but we aren't!!!

Yeah can we just not have police anymore? That would make me feel so much safer.
-
Yeah, let's create total anarchy and see how it works out. (Op are you mentally incapable of realizing how many people are helped by these "Thugs" everyday. You probably never hear both sides of life. If you didn't listen to biased media, then you wouldn't be making these posts.)
-
You're absolutely correct! Let's take these thugs off the street! They're gonna kill everyone at this rate! I mean, that's all they do, right? Just shoot everything that moves?
-
Google "cops save lives"
-
PETA did it
-
Who cares, holy -blam!-. I'm so tired of hearing all of this bullshit news all the -blam!-ing time. The police are racist and Satan, don't -blam!- with them, etc.
-
Microwave it
-
Ha! Cops are bad at their jobs, and their aim! I hope that scrub got what he deserved.
-
This whole thread is a fallacy... Two questions with one answer: If a Chevrolet car has brake pads from Audi, does that make it an Audi? If one policeman is bad, does that make the whole police force bad?

Edited by Ops R4ng3r: 6/21/2015 2:41:58 AMI'm a pizza delivery guy. I wish I could pull a gun on every dog that's charged me as I walk into its yard. Or I could wait and allow the owner to restrain the dog.
