I understand your passion for what you are writing. And know that I am a 28 year old father of a 6 year old and have a baby on the way, so maybe my opinion is biased. That being said, this has to be one of the most naive posts I've ever read. First, you being a "kid", it is unlikely that you have any comprehensive perspective on what being a man/husband/father actually entails. You respect your father, and what he is to you, and that is wonderful. But, he doesn't set the standard for what father's should be. I'm sure he possesses many great care giving and fatherly attributes, but there is no #1 exact template for being a father. Second, different father's can easily have different roles based on the family outline. Stay at home fathers, ones who travel far for work, ones who work 4 12 hour shifts, etc. This allocates different time frames one might be available for certain things. Sometimes opposing schedules will make a father available for family time when the family is already asleep, or at school. And finally, to reiterate, there is no formal template for how a father should allocate his time. I work 7 days a week as a farmer. I can work anywhere from 4-16 hours a day and usually bank an average of 60 per week. I live on my farm. This allows me to be the one to pick up and drop off my child at school (interdistrict transfer = no public transportation). Every second I am not working is spent with my daughter and wife. But, to enjoy the entertainment I get from hobbies, I game from 9pm to 2am 3 days a week, when my wife and child are asleep. I pay for it in the am, having to get up at 6, but for me to enjoy what it is that I love to do, it's worth it. The original gaming generation is getting older and older, and some may think it's socially correct to give up gaming at a certain age, some may not. What you need to realize is everyone has their own unique outlook on what is socially acceptable and what is not, but either way, what you think and what your father does do not shape the standard for what is "correct".
