Repeatedly telling us to purchase the content we already have bought was just silly to begin with, telling us it was 'good value' was even sillier. However the absolute arrogance in this interview made me cringe every time he answered a question. This mindset probably isn't across the board, but it's been instilled into him from within the company.
Bungie look awful after this, and I can imagine a lot of preorders will be getting cancelled.
Shambles.

The game died on day 1.

Edited by Romney57: 6/22/2015 10:20:21 PMUs Brits are being conned, can I purchase this game in US dollars from the UK? Even with the exchange rate it would be cheaper, is this some sort of favouritism towards the US market? And as for the tone of Luke Smith's replies he comes across like a right twat. Oh and when are you going to make PvP fairer by removing lag, lag switchers, cheats etc and give us all a fair crack at the whip??? Server based PvP is the only way forward, then I would gladly pay more as the way things stand now I basically pay for half a game due to gross PvP lag and it's not my connection Bungie I've have had that checked by British Telecom !!!

I'm not signing it because veterans already get exclusives...the new players won't get our old OP weapons no hammer forged shotguns no more final round snipers we have all of the old weapons they can't get...do we really need XP bonuses with are level 34 characters ...

I have no reason to watch the Planet Destiny interview with Deej now, they really don't care about us at all, it's all about getting every penny from us at this point.

Bungie needs to seriously consider their marketing and pr teams comments and ideology. It may only sound like a partly 20,40 extra dollars but it's the message you send to these loyal fans who continue to play this game. Yeah we love this game and we overlook some terrible blunders and bugs this game has historically had because it is a great game and there's no other big titles out for us to throw time at. But when you subject your loyal fan base to your "we'll throw money at the screen" remarks we're likely to find entertainment elsewhere. You honestly think we are going to all swallow our pride and let a video game developer make such remarks and just do nothing? Foolish, additionally if you think this game has sustained this long as a result of a "newer player base" that's unrealistic. The staunch defenders at this game are the ones who continuously play and have continually recommended it to their friends. The reviews on this game are subpar and with all the additional games coming out you think you can abuse this loyal fab base? Kind of remarkable that you made such remarks, I understand the business world. There was a team in place who designed the cost and you were one individual being asked some seriously tough questions that you struggled to answer with tact. But man, you dropped the ball...

If you have not seen this yet... spread the word. we are close to 17,000 Veterans who have signed this. Tweet it, share it, repost it. Get it out there and tell Bungie & Activision whats up. #DestinyVeteransOUT

Jokes on them from my perspective. I've got Sly Cooper and Archery. I can play outside and go to work when I'm not playing video games. I've had my fun with Destiny, and, now I'm bored with it. I'm not buying a collector's edition for Destiny, when it ain't a classic... my collection of Playstation 1 games has more replay value anyway.

Yeah he was smug and condescending during that interview. And it does suck that gamers that use the euro have to spend so much more for their entertainment. But that's something to take to your parliament peeps I guess. $80 or $40 in US is little to nothing for adults to pay. I could see parents being pissed pr saying no to their kids that ask for the Taken King though.

Veteran players support this they have 18,000 supporters already https://www.change.org/p/bungie-activision-give-year-1-players-the-same-perks/u/11160790

Why is this such a big deal! The way he acted was questionable. I don't find this insulting but just a bit informal for him to say something like this. But so? Big deal!

He pissed me off so much....

Reddit isn't very happy with Bungie right now. And rightly so. http://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/3aqlly/bungie_defending_the_taken_king_price_tag/ Have fun reading all those comments, Mr. Smith. lol

Luke Smith sounds completely out of touch, but he's representing the directives and values of his employer and its business partners, e.g. Bungie and probably more accurately, Activision. I think most people don't understand what a publisher does, it's likely they're primarily responsible for the pricing and packaging structure we're seeing on offer here. I really think the direction to avoid the questions or try to otherwise justify the collectors edition shennanigans is coming from Activision. $40 is ok for TTK expansion. I feel fine being asked for $40 for TTK. I even don't mind the $60 version that has $135 worth of content. I understand there's a cost associated with being an early adopter. I really just wish they'd offer the collectors edition items in a way that doesn't require owners of TDB and HOW to have to spend $20 to repurchase old content, and I think that's most people's gripe. Oh and also, charging $80 for the digital collectors edition, the same price as the physical one that has significantly more value, is underhanded and ridiculous.

U.S. Brits are always being ripped of price wise just look at consoles Xbox one 300 dollars and 300 pounds so it will never change

Bad publicity is still good publicity.

Completely agree. I am a mature gamer with some 17 years experience on the PC platform. $40 does not equal £40 ffs it is about time this is sorted out, there is no excuse for this wallet -blam!- on the basis of currency exchange, it's an absolute -blam!-ing disgrace to even promote the idea that £40 is a valid sum for DLC. It is outright utter greed shame on you! For the record i can make this payment with relative ease, but it is gauling to see that price after the half arsed dlc which was recently released. As a developer myself, i found the recent iteration to be incredibly lazy in comparison to other well known titles. No new factions, no raids, a competitive element with the poorest matchmaking i have seen for over a decade. This company makes out the delivery of a competitive scenario should make us bow, but the reality is, such scenario's should have been in their as a base element. It is really poor Bungie. Sadly, this reminds me of the extremely arrogant and incredibly annoying Bobby Kotick, who only wankered a COD franchise but was an utter arrogant twat also. Finally, people will pay and that's why player power = no power. Money talks! and the next generation arrives with a lack of funds.
