Since the Taken King is shown to reside near Saturn or farther that they took the humans and experimented on them. Tried to make them Taken but failed and just killed them. As a way to defile the Traveler he made the exact opposite, a guardian forged in Darkness (the exo stranger). It is known that it's possible for other races to manipulate Vex technology for time travel (Skolas in the House of Wolves). What if the Taken King used time travel as a way to know the past and future, to defeat the Traveler. The Hive could be the one true enemy of the Traveler, this is guessed since the Taken King can infuse other races with the Darkness itself.
