I'll be waiting for some reviews to come out before I make a decision.
HoW was so great for some because tDB was so lack luster.
They could have told that story so much better.
Eris story is so tragic and sad and IMO had the potential to have much more impact on the player than HoW story but the method of telling it was mediocre.
The story missions were short and had no purpose once you went through them (still don't)
And just the fact that I had a solid grasp of everything I needed to do in Crota the first go around..was dissapointing.
The HoW method of story telling could have been more solidly flushed out. I would have liked to see more of the queen and her brother since per the trailer they are the first that witnessed the treachery of skolas. But the interaction with Petra and Varricks was good for a shooter. ( notice I said shooter not good for an RPG)
Ttk seems to take it a step further towards that style which is fine, just not ideal on it's own.
I enjoy some of the poe but the etheric light system was confusingly announced and even though it is a guaranteed drop, you have to already be maxed out to get the most out of it which is backwards to how it should be and defeats the purpose of it.
I hurt myself turning all my shards into notes of light when I apparently still needed them to upgrade my gear so that doesn't help either lol but that's my fault for not understanding.
I don't agree with the removal of ascendant materials from activities. Unless it was a mission I really liked to play, ascendant materials were the biggest reason to do the daily story. I know some of you had hundreds of each kind but not all of us have the ability to dedicate hours of searching and weeding through randoms to get through an event.
I don't get why there isn't leaderboards to keep things fresh either. We know we're going to have to grind at least some, so why not give us stuff to keep it interesting. Stuff like fastest clear time, most elemental kills most supers, suicides I the list could go on and on for strikes and it could give new life to story missions.
Between xboxone and ps4 I have probably completed both raids not even ten times and I would love to play more. But searching takes so much time. Why there's no in game activity for gathering guardians together (without this what is the point of the vanguard anyway) nor is there anyway to join a raid via patrol is beyond me and bad planning/design IMO.
I would love to vog more just because its fun I'd even love to do crota some more just because I haven't only finished it a few times. I don't think I even did crota on hard.
I don't have gjhallahorn and I'm not going to grind for it. That isn't fun for me. What point is there in having an amazing weapon if you've played everything to the point that the game is work so you can have it? Because once you do its not like all of a sudden new things to do appear.
The iron banner was one of my favorite PvP activities but that has gotten stale also. It's been in the line up too many times and lost its specialness. And it's a total time sink. Fun or not you have to dedicate an irresponsible amount of time to reach the appropriate rank. And if you don't have your vault filled with glimmer consumables, then you've only wasted your time.
I work at a job where I can swap shifts. I only work two to three days a week and its still a miserable grind after a while.
I want a sense of accomplishment, not to feel like "well, I did it..finally..never doing it again tho"
Removing the damage upgrade nodes was a step in the right direction for grinding. It was just adding time for the sake of it. I can try new and different guns and experiment with new things because my time invested has enough meaning in that respect now.
Chat should have always been opt out or proximity. In a team based game we have been conditioned to not communicate. And then when things come up that require dedicated teamwork and communication..people wonder why and then come on here and complain it's too hard. That's bungies fault.
On ps4 I have all the old iron banner gear on my titan with helm of inmost light as a helmet. I like that look. I'm going to keep that look. Bungie said we could take these characters with us through the series. But if from the ttk on we aren't allowed to judge what we want to have based in its own merits then that will simply not be the case. It's not like underneath the helmet my character is anything special. The character customizing options were shockingly limited. If I want to look like a herald of the Iron Lords, I should be able to do so. And if my armor is insufficient, I should be able to continue to upgrade and modify it as I go like any other game with RPG elements.
It doesn't make sense to always wipe the slate clean every dlc when it comes to weapons either. Each vendor should have pages of weapons to choose from by now, but each set gets replaced with another every time. That doesn't make sense. That's not expanding the game. It's merely changing it.
So for those and other reasons that would make this post even longer I will refrain from purchasing TTK until I am certain that it is worthy of it's $40 price tag.
