The interviewer said it was all good humoured and enjoyable, his favourite out of the E3 interviews he did. I think people are reading this all with the wrong inflection. When I read it, it sounded like two people joking around, not someone telling the community to literally throw money at their screen.
Can we please end this hate? A developer should be expected to talk about a game's development, not the marketing. Talk to DeeJ or ActiVision about that.

That's all from reddit, thought it was worth posting here.
EDIT: the post got moved to their mega thread and I'm mobile now, anyhow, credit to JI for making the reddit post that I quoted.

Honestly, that's how I read it as well. Like two people joking around. A lot of Smith's answers were unfortunate, and he probably should have thought twice before adopting that kind of tone (although tone is always hard to interpret in print), but overall I think this community is being WAY to hard on him and reading WAY to much into this interview. More than anything, it sounds like he knows theres stuff he's not allowed to say, so he's trying to talk around it. None of that's dismisses the bizarre decision to package digital content that many veteran players will want along side content they've already purchased. I would't characterize that as a slap in the face, the end of the world or a reason to stop playing the game (as I've seen many people do), but it does seem like a huge missed opportunity. I'll be buying the basic TTK package, but Bungie won't be getting any extra money from me. And they could have. I would have happily paid $60 for a more robust digital package.
