Not sure where you got your figures from, but in January of 2013 despite coming out a year later PS3 passed xbox360 in units sold. Neither Sony nor Mircosoft divulge the actual number of units per console sold anymore. They estimate by 10ths of 1 million. (That's per 100,000)
Further, Microsoft estimates over the life of the 360 they lost on average 1 billion a year and at the end of the "last gen" race were in the red. (That's negative in profits) Sony enjoyed a profitable run with the PS3.
The only reason Xbox was ahead in the beginning was due to it being released 14 months before the PS3.
Even more, Xbox admits that part of their sales are inflated due to the massive continued error codes their consoles had (red ring) and that when a new console had to be shipped out due to a previous one failing it was counted as a "unit sold" that also is part of the loss of profit the 360 and Microsoft encountered.
