Playing Destiny Under Age

Although this is an old, already discussed problem, I believe that we can still change. I feel that the majority of players that play Destiny are under the appropriate age for shooters. I think this age should be 18 and over. I'll give you a few reasons. 1)It causes traumatic situations. I for one do not want my child flinching and screaming away every time they see somebody holding a sword. 2) It causes anti-social instincts to grow. When you think about it, the average session a child will play in Destiny is three to four hours. That's three to four hours where the only communication the are getting is with people they have met over the Internet. I don't want children growing older and being scared of every person they see. 3) It teaches them bad words. Every lobby I go into, there is always that person (usually a child) screaming curse words for no good reason. Where did they find out these words? From older players. If there was a minimum age, you would not have this problem. Children are getting angrier because of this game. 4) My final reason is that it causes violence. No 10 year old should be able to make another creatures head explode, or shoot other players virtually. What happens when that transfers to the real world? That anger and frustration would lead to much property being desecrated including Mailbox Baseball Laser Tag TPing Houses Egging Cars Multiple holes in the wall from being punched. ANY PERSON who do not follow these rules should be arrested with a minimum 2 year sentence. Thank you all for the support you give me. I believe that a change to only 18 year olds and over would make the worlds youth safer and more intelligent than currently.

  • Any game kids play these days will have curse words in it and to send someone to jail for playing a game never going to happen if anything they will just be told to watch what they play and they will go on with life do we really want to get rid of a pass time kids enjoy even though it maybe violent and all but we all grew up doing these things and breaking rules. sending people to jail for a playing a game which rating is only advise would waste to much money and ruin so many peoples life's if we went by the rules that you just put up.

  • I hope you never have children. I've heard curse words since I was 4...in 2 different languages. I only use them when needed. Am I a psychopath that goes around shooting up schools? No. And another thing; who allows these kids to play these games? THE PARENTS. It's the parents fault, if there IS any fault to be had.

  • Am I the only one that seems to find a majority of destiny players are actually a lot older than most shooters. I rarely ever join a lobby/raid where people are noticeably young by voice. I'm obviously not gonna ask everyone their age but that's just what I've noticed. Anyone else?

    • I would think that when it comes to it, it's all about the maturity level. For example, I do realize that there are some immature 16 year olds out there but I tend to keep my stuff together. I'm not blurting out curse words every 2 min. or so but I do get the issue and I hope they do something about it.

1 I've been playing video games since I was 3. Do I flinch when someone opens their mouth cause it looks like Pac-Man? No. 2 How does it make someone antisocial? My best friends play Xbox with me and we've grown together cause of it. 3. There's Parental Settings for -blam!-s sake. If you're scared they're gonna find a way to find curse words then don't show them the Internet in general till they're in their teens. 4. "Video games cause violence". Have I gone to shoot up a school after playing Call of Duty? No. Do I want to punch somebody to death after playing Mortal Kombat? No. Do I want to assassinate someone after playing Assassin's Creed? No. There's been studies done by scientists that show video games DO NOT CAUSE VIOLENCE. There's also the ESRB rating system. If parents feel like they want to let their child play video games then why are you getting in their way? They took the risk of letting their children into somewhere they might learn inappropriate things. I know OP wants children to grow up in a good environment, but the world isn't hugs and kisses.

I'm 43 yr old Gen 1 gamer! Grew up in the arcades and dropping quarters at the roller rink. Been shooting and slaughtering digital enemies since I was 10. I respect people, life, and would risk my life for my fellow man!! Your point, and your view is moot. In my opinion. Respectfully!

      • Are you serious? Destiny is one of, if not the, tamest FPS of the past 15 years. Now, if this was a forum for GTA or Far Cry, you might have a point. But even then, video game violence is not a legitimate cause of real life violence. Broken families and mental illness are two prominent factors that are ignored in favor of blaming video games.

      • In my profession I work with children. I have been a gamer since 8 years old. I've played many gamers "underage", including Halo, Manhunt, Tekken, MortalKombat, and many other games famed for violence. These two facts lead me to one conclusion. You are incorrect. Videogames do not make children violent. Raise your children properly and teach them that games are an escape into a fantasy world. Show them that games do not reflect reality. I hate when this argument comes up. "Mickey has got so violent recently, I swear it's those videogames..." WELL WHO BOUGHT THEM FOR HIM. In buying them, your child is seeing that you condone a child having access to that. They will look to you to see what is acceptable. By all means, purchase them. But be sure to sit with them and guide them, explaining how they are a fantasy, an unrealistic representation of the world. And should your child show signs of them adversely affecting them, then take the games away. Be a responsible parent. Do your job. Every day I see kids joking about stuff way above their age range - and that's ok. That's what kids do. If it's too far or notably offensive, I will deal with it. But the point is made clear when they say "oh, it's off GTA. I got it for Christmas." Lots of kids get GTA, yet only a select few have problems as a result. Why? Poor parenting. By no means is it the be all and end all, but I have myself as an example. I was raised excellently, taught right from wrong, yet still allowed to play these, and was rightly punished when I allowed it to carry through to reality. That is how you prevent issues. Don't blame the game. Blame the people giving them access. And by that I do not mean the shops, rating boards or companies. I mean you. I also disagree with the anti-social bit. I have a wider reach of friends now than I could hope for, from the Americas to Australia. I AM socializing, that's the point. Just because I am doing it in a way you feel is inappropriate does not make it wrong. My father used to get told he was being anti-social when they used to go to the movies, because they weren't talking to each other... Logic much?

          • if this is just a general concern, then you know nothing about how impresionable young kids are, and if this is something you have specifically seen (your kid) then did it ever occur to you that your kid is simply violent and swears? It may just be YOUR fault, don't blame an outside source.
