Playing Destiny Under Age

Although this is an old, already discussed problem, I believe that we can still change. I feel that the majority of players that play Destiny are under the appropriate age for shooters. I think this age should be 18 and over. I'll give you a few reasons. 1)It causes traumatic situations. I for one do not want my child flinching and screaming away every time they see somebody holding a sword. 2) It causes anti-social instincts to grow. When you think about it, the average session a child will play in Destiny is three to four hours. That's three to four hours where the only communication the are getting is with people they have met over the Internet. I don't want children growing older and being scared of every person they see. 3) It teaches them bad words. Every lobby I go into, there is always that person (usually a child) screaming curse words for no good reason. Where did they find out these words? From older players. If there was a minimum age, you would not have this problem. Children are getting angrier because of this game. 4) My final reason is that it causes violence. No 10 year old should be able to make another creatures head explode, or shoot other players virtually. What happens when that transfers to the real world? That anger and frustration would lead to much property being desecrated including Mailbox Baseball Laser Tag TPing Houses Egging Cars Multiple holes in the wall from being punched. ANY PERSON who do not follow these rules should be arrested with a minimum 2 year sentence. Thank you all for the support you give me. I believe that a change to only 18 year olds and over would make the worlds youth safer and more intelligent than currently.

  • Wow OK where to start, maybe it should have an age restriction, but 18? I'm sorry but that's a bit over doing it. I have a daughter and I think if I saw a game that was to much for her I as the parent would tell her she can't play it till she's a bit older, everyone ( expecially some parents) are always looking for outside influence to justify the fact that they them selfs have neglected to teach there child how to behave properly and handle situations the right way.

  • I played gta when I was 9 probably youngerI am currently a law bidding citizen with a full time job and a family. Also lots of friends online and in the real world. I think discipline and communication with your child is probably what will help them understand the diffetence in a video game and the real world.
I believe that a change to only 18 year olds and over would make the worlds youth safer and more intelligent than currently.
If you're going to act like you care about our youth, then be prepared to address ALL of the problems that are currently damaging children and young adults. For starters, lets talk abusive parenting, drugs, -blam!- and other forms of violence enacted by the adults themselves. This discussion about whether video games have a negative effect on a child's mind is at the least of our worries, especially an age restriction. Age restrictions already exist, but that won't stop parents from buying games like Mortal Kombat and CoD for their kids.

  • Well i think most kids learn cursing from there parents, sadly, and/or from school, sadly also. Plus i dont think a game like destiny is gonna make anyone go shoot something up, just my opinion. I see more of my friends and other kids play fighting and doing some WWE stuff than point a toy gun and such at eachother

    • I learned my first curse word from a kid at my school. He also taught me the bird. Had no idea what that was so I went home and asked my mom as I flipped her the bird. That didn't go over well. I started playing shooters when I was 10. I'm 21 now and still actively play shooters. I'm a well rounded individual. I have a girlfriend. I hangout with my friends regularly. I'm going into my senior year of college. I work 35+ hours a week. I've never been arrested or even received a ticket for that matter. As for the amount of time you let your kids play video games that's up to you. If you don't want them playing for 3-4 hours then don't let them. I could only play an hour a day when I was young. Also it's worth mentioning I've never blown off anyone's head in real life nor have I TPed a building, destroyed a mailbox (people still do that?), and whatever else you said games like destiny lead to. Kids are gonna do bad things but most of the time they are influenced by people and other outside sources, not video games. It's your job as a parent to set boundaries for your kid. It's your job to explain the difference between TV/video games and the real world. It's your job to raise them properly. This isn't something I should have to explain to an adult and frankly it's just sad. Let's look at things destiny does right by the way. It has no cursing, it has no blood, and it isn't gory. Its a mildly violent game. The main thing is if you don't want your kids playing destiny then don't let them, but don't come onto these forums trying to preach your beliefs to us. I'm just upset I actually spent time to acknowledge and respond to you.

    • The ratings are there as a suggestion to parents. Thank God mine were level headed. So long as I understood something was fictitious, and didn't repeat any bad language, I could play or watch what I wanted (so long as there wasn't any filthy sex in it). Do I really wanna be "that guy?" Why not? If I wanted to traumatize a child, I'd have them read The Old Testament. Some of that material is beyond messed up. Thank goodness for modern thinking. Now we can commit adultery without being stoned to death in the town square! ::rolls eyes:: Corruption is everywhere. Try to be a moral person, do the best you can, and don't attempt to force your views on others. If another parent feels it's ok, that's their decision. Not to play devil's advocate, but to quote Al Pacino,"Free will, it is a bitch."

      • I assume you're joking or "baiting" but in seriousness though, anyone who believes this crap but plays games themselves is a hypocrite. I've been playing halo since 2001, I was 6 then, and I turned out fine! What will cause negative behavior in a child is crappy parenting and blaming video games is just a half cocked way of trying to pass the buck on your own failures...besides games don't make people violent, lag does! Moral of the story, get good internet to avoid violent children....also do your job as a parent and stop trying to blame stuff on games

It's rated T for Teen for a reason. There's little to no cursing through most of the game, and the violence is minimalistic. If you're gonna complain about something, complain about six year olds playing GTA (my friends little brother does and he's 6) because that's more serious. If you're little kid screams every time he sees a sword, he needs mental help because that's not natural, even for one that young playing Destiny. Anyone over 13 should be able to play and three years under ain't much. Don't complain about the rating, and who plays the game, complain about how people (including yourself I presume) buy or let their children buy games that they think may not be appropriate for them -just some useful advice from a teen

          • So then tell parents to stop buying it for their whiny little brats. It's been rated. But when adults buy the game for them.......
