Playing Destiny Under Age

Although this is an old, already discussed problem, I believe that we can still change. I feel that the majority of players that play Destiny are under the appropriate age for shooters. I think this age should be 18 and over. I'll give you a few reasons. 1)It causes traumatic situations. I for one do not want my child flinching and screaming away every time they see somebody holding a sword. 2) It causes anti-social instincts to grow. When you think about it, the average session a child will play in Destiny is three to four hours. That's three to four hours where the only communication the are getting is with people they have met over the Internet. I don't want children growing older and being scared of every person they see. 3) It teaches them bad words. Every lobby I go into, there is always that person (usually a child) screaming curse words for no good reason. Where did they find out these words? From older players. If there was a minimum age, you would not have this problem. Children are getting angrier because of this game. 4) My final reason is that it causes violence. No 10 year old should be able to make another creatures head explode, or shoot other players virtually. What happens when that transfers to the real world? That anger and frustration would lead to much property being desecrated including Mailbox Baseball Laser Tag TPing Houses Egging Cars Multiple holes in the wall from being punched. ANY PERSON who do not follow these rules should be arrested with a minimum 2 year sentence. Thank you all for the support you give me. I believe that a change to only 18 year olds and over would make the worlds youth safer and more intelligent than currently.

  • All four of your reasons are incredibly stupid. I sincerely hope you don't have kids. My daughter plays. She's quite a bit less than 18. She's not violent, doesn't hear any more or less bad words than she does at school or home, and isn't randomly terrified of swords (although a little fear of someone brandishing a sword doesn't sound dysfunctional to me). She has lots of friends. Making sweeping generalizations about other people is a sure fire sign of ignorance. If your kids would be horribly fcuked up by playing destiny, keep them away from it. That doesn't have any bearing on what anyone else should do.

Online interactions aren't rated by the ESRB, they tell you that in every game. If your child is being influenced by something as harmless as a video game, then you may need to check how your are raising your child. I'm not saying that you failed as a parent, but this shouldn't be a problem.

      • Also what difference does age make with your conflicting ideas what's to keep an 18 year old from grabbing a sword and pretending his friend is Crota

      • I have some weird feeling you are a psychopath and you are trying to figure out why so you blamed it on a video game and in turn you try to keep others from being crazy like you

        • This has to be a troll post? Please tell me it is.
I for one do not want my child flinching and screaming away every time they see somebody holding a sword.
Really??? So if your child sees someone holding a sword, you want them to confidently charge them down and disarm them? Point 2 is totally irrelevant because they can spend just as much time on any game (little big planet comes to mind, a harmless game that can still take up a lot of your time). You'd have to put every game to a high rating based on what you're saying. Destiny is a 16.... I can guarantee you that children know foul language a lot younger than that. I work with children and you'd be surprised just how young they learn about all sorts of things that they shouldn't know at their age. By 16 they are well aware of bad language, some of which will be the ones spreading it on lobbies. Could have gotten it from friends, their parents, TV etc. Tom and Jerry could cause violence, if you bash something on the head or squash them, they'll be totally fine. If you're going to troll, do a better job of it, a rather poor attempt.

        • If I saw somebody in public holding a sword I would probably flinch and scream as well. That is a perfectly appropriate defensive response. One that I would hope all children will learn sooner than later.

          • I think age limited should be 14 or 15 and up because not all people are mean say curse word and most of the reason little kids say curse word is because of their parents

              • I'm 23 and grew up on violent games. I never did anything violent as a child. To argue that video games cause violent tendencies in minors is silly. Might as well argue that driving a family sedan on the highway may lead to PTSD. It should be up to parents if their kids play these games and rightfully so.

Been playing shooters since I was 10. Straight A student, I stay out of trouble, and I'm very social. And fighting someone is one of the last things I want to do

                  • I'm 24 and grew up playing resident evil and gta on the original playstation. I have a good job and turned out fine. Absolutely no urge to run around shooting heads off as a kid or now. Video games are not the problem. Good parenting molds a successful respectful child. Just because he or she plays video games doesn't mean he's going to be a delinquent running around committing crimes. I had a pretty rough upbringing and even I came to the realization of that on my own.
