Playing Destiny Under Age

Although this is an old, already discussed problem, I believe that we can still change. I feel that the majority of players that play Destiny are under the appropriate age for shooters. I think this age should be 18 and over. I'll give you a few reasons. 1)It causes traumatic situations. I for one do not want my child flinching and screaming away every time they see somebody holding a sword. 2) It causes anti-social instincts to grow. When you think about it, the average session a child will play in Destiny is three to four hours. That's three to four hours where the only communication the are getting is with people they have met over the Internet. I don't want children growing older and being scared of every person they see. 3) It teaches them bad words. Every lobby I go into, there is always that person (usually a child) screaming curse words for no good reason. Where did they find out these words? From older players. If there was a minimum age, you would not have this problem. Children are getting angrier because of this game. 4) My final reason is that it causes violence. No 10 year old should be able to make another creatures head explode, or shoot other players virtually. What happens when that transfers to the real world? That anger and frustration would lead to much property being desecrated including Mailbox Baseball Laser Tag TPing Houses Egging Cars Multiple holes in the wall from being punched. ANY PERSON who do not follow these rules should be arrested with a minimum 2 year sentence. Thank you all for the support you give me. I believe that a change to only 18 year olds and over would make the worlds youth safer and more intelligent than currently.

  • I'm 24 and grew up playing resident evil and gta on the original playstation. I have a good job and turned out fine. Absolutely no urge to run around shooting heads off as a kid or now. Video games are not the problem. Good parenting molds a successful respectful child. Just because he or she plays video games doesn't mean he's going to be a delinquent running around committing crimes. I had a pretty rough upbringing and even I came to the realization of that on my own.

  • #3 can easily be fixed by muting the players and #4 was already proven false. • I've actually only played with a couple of 'squeakers' so to speak. Most people seem to be mid to late 20's and up.

How about not let your child play a game such as this, or any other for that matter.

      • Do you home school your kids too? Because if they're going to public school, I can guarantee you that there isn't anything said on game chat that they haven't already heard. Anyone who thinks otherwise is only fooling themselves. Egging and TPing are Halloween traditions that don't have anything to do with FPS. Get real.

However, your argument on escalating tendencies is unfounded. You are assuming A causes B, what if B is responsible for A? Your saying violent video games are creating violent children. What if violent children are drawn to violent video games? In the nature vs nurture debate nature almost always wins.

            • Lmfao....dude I'm 43 and I die hard gamer. Though I suck at destiny.....been playing video games since odyssey 2.....wow that takes me back. No problems here. Nor in any of the family or friends or their children either. It's your opinion and that's all it is. If you don't want your children playing this game or any game, that's fine and your choice. I for one allow my son to play destiny at 10 years old, and will continue to do so as long as household rules and time restraints are followed. All that you have stated is your opinion. And I don't like others personal opinions being shoved in my face. Keep it to yourself!

Iol, if this was something like call of duty then I'd bump this (like WW) but for destiny? It's rated T for teens for a reason 1.theres no blood (screen turning red doesn't count) 2. No curse words what so ever 3.the only "realistic" guns in this game are the NLB and the starting gun (not even gonna try to spell it right now) And 4.if you really don't want your kid listening to other ppl in lobby's then turn off the game chat thing in the settings for console or make it to were the person has to be on your friends list in order to hear them Edit* and a two year minimum of jail time? Now that's a dick move

              • 2 years? That's too little. These criminals should be locked up for no less than 15 years, and the child that was forced to play such a violent game should be admitted to an asylum and undergo a minimum of 5 years of therapy to help correct any of the mental trauma that could manifest itself later on in life.

18 is too high. I would say 16 is fine even 15. I've been playing shooters since I was around 8, almost 30 now and I've never killed anyone. It's about how you raise your child, teach them right from wrong. Are they mentally ill? Are they depressed? There are so many determining factors as to why a person does what they do. Edit: Truthfully I think Facebook is more dangerous to a child's mental health than a fantasy shooter with next to no elements of gore. Sure you can shoot a head off a knight but you don't see brains come busting out and blood dripping everywhere. I've seen way more violence on Facebook with people burning puppies, people jumping other people because of color. Hell the news has more of an impact for children, that's where they see real violence.

                  • Hahah you think kids under 18 shouldn't play this game because it causes them to be violent.....but you think being arrested for it and put in prison for 2 years will teach them peace and understanding. This isn't north Korea

Violent crime is decreasing, has been for years. Media coverage of incidents and tragic mass murders are on the rise... Some experts believe the decrease in juvenile delinquency is due to video games - they have something to do inside where its safe rather than being bored on the streets doing stupid risky things and causing mischief. edit - Sorry not saying kids should be allowed to sit and play video games for hours everyday, getting outside to play is great, but only with proper supervision or environments Is there a minimum age that should be restricted? Yes, and that is for each legal guardian to decide for their own child. Your 2 year sentence is an awful idea and I assume dramatization to get a reaction...Let's put a kid who played violent video games into a facility with other juveniles who dealt/did drugs...they won't come out better.
