Playing Destiny Under Age

Although this is an old, already discussed problem, I believe that we can still change. I feel that the majority of players that play Destiny are under the appropriate age for shooters. I think this age should be 18 and over. I'll give you a few reasons. 1)It causes traumatic situations. I for one do not want my child flinching and screaming away every time they see somebody holding a sword. 2) It causes anti-social instincts to grow. When you think about it, the average session a child will play in Destiny is three to four hours. That's three to four hours where the only communication the are getting is with people they have met over the Internet. I don't want children growing older and being scared of every person they see. 3) It teaches them bad words. Every lobby I go into, there is always that person (usually a child) screaming curse words for no good reason. Where did they find out these words? From older players. If there was a minimum age, you would not have this problem. Children are getting angrier because of this game. 4) My final reason is that it causes violence. No 10 year old should be able to make another creatures head explode, or shoot other players virtually. What happens when that transfers to the real world? That anger and frustration would lead to much property being desecrated including Mailbox Baseball Laser Tag TPing Houses Egging Cars Multiple holes in the wall from being punched. ANY PERSON who do not follow these rules should be arrested with a minimum 2 year sentence. Thank you all for the support you give me. I believe that a change to only 18 year olds and over would make the worlds youth safer and more intelligent than currently.
Bad words
Sure, play the story line (DLC and all) the worst it can get is Damn! or Hell. If you can read the ESBR it says:
Online interactions not rated.
Which to anybody that knows people, it can get dirty in a lobby of strangers. Edit:
Take out anger is the real world.
I see laser tag as one, why the heck do you think LASER TAG is a bad thing?! It's a fun activity that they offer to anybody that is 10+. Why is laser tag a bad thing? I would like an answer to that. It's not a bad influence, you're crazy to think it is.

          • Regardless of what the game is rated parents are completely oblivious and buy GTA for their 10 year olds. Destiny also has a T rating currently. Your issue is with oblivious parents as opposed to the ESRB.

              • This is literally the dumbest thing is ever heard in my life. "Let's arrest people for playing a game too young". You can't make a law about that. It's the parents decision to let them play or not, not the governments.

              • I don't necessarily disagree with what you're saying but, isn't that ultimately the parents decision and responsibility to raise their child.

Hey I'm 15 and this a BS. When u turn 18 you don't just suddenly become immune to violence... It has to do with maturity. And not to burst ur bubble but this is rated T... For TEEN.

                • "Video games cause violence." The dumbest phrase ever to exit anyone's mouth. Completely disregarded by logicnd science but held by its believers for no real reason.

                  • Wow, deep end a little bit? Breath, all the things you listed were actually bigger problems with kids before video games. Kids don't act out because they saw it in a game. Kids act out from a primal desire to experience everything. It's only when the reason and fear we have taught them kick in that they start to behave more appropriately. There is a distinct lack of parenting. Although, given the drug fueled 70s and 80s, parenting was a problem then too. There will always be something to be upset about, just try not to jump head first. The minimum age for this game in the US is 13. Probably a little young I agree. Although the flip side is, how constructively do you help your children with their time. My kids can earn up 30 mins a day of digital play time. The games they get to play are Final Fantasy 4 or Kingdom Hearts or Chrono Trigger. They need to learn some video game history as they grow up too.

                  • Video games don't mold children, parents do.

                  • It's a video game.... 13+ is totally fine. There isn't blood splatter, or cursing. When I was a kid, I'm talking 5 to 8... we were outside playing guns all the time. No one turned out to be a violent, murderous individual. This topic is really getting old, and parents should be able to decide whether or not their children can or can not separate real life from fictional entertainment.

                  • I m going to have to disagree with this on a few matters. I see the point you're trying to make but you're just not making it. Traumatic situations? Just because someone flinches at something doesn't mean they are traumatized. I and many other gamers jump when playing games, yet we are not traumatized. As for children, they're the same way. Think of trick-or-treating and how many kids are scared by that, yet they still go the next year. And I know what it's like being traumatized and frankly I don't think it could happen in destiny. (If you must know, i am traumatized from wearing contacts because one got stuck in my eye for multiple hours and I had to go to the emergency room to get it removed.) Social instincts? I'm not sure I understand how talking to complete strangers on a game would make you afraid of people in real life. Not really sure the concept of fear is really understood. I really can't comprehend that, if anything it would make you better at talking to people in real life because well... You're talking to people, the more you do it the better you get at it. This is coming from someone who went from remaining completely silent around strangers to talking to them for hours. Yes, in real life. Bad words? Well its up to the parent what the child can and can't say. And there's always the option of taking away the headset, or muting the other players. And they're bound to learn them anyway, hiding them from it would only make it worse. I learned swear words at a very young age, but I do go around yelling them or even use them as insults Violence? Well firstly its the parents job to teach the child the difference between games and reality. And these are also aliens you're fighting half the time (I said half because of crucible), aliens that don't look human and are evil. If you're child wants to go to Mars and shoot aliens, I don't really see the harm in that. Considering they won't be allowed to go, and the recoil on a gun would launch them back miles in space. Video game violence has actually decreased in the last few years, and keep in mind video games don't always impact someone to a point where they act it out in real life. If that were the case I would be eating circles in a neon maze in a dark room, running away from multicolored ghosts while listening to electronic music. Kids may be sponges when it comes to learning, absorbing knowledge all around them. But don't think they're dumb, most kids know what's real and what isn't (based on parenting). You sound worried about this, so if the need arises or you just feel the need then talk to your child about video games. Make sure they know the difference between reality and the game world. I don't mean this to be hostile, but rather to inform. Enjoy.

                    • Wow. Yes shelter children so they are even less experienced. That sounds like it could totally work...oh wait. Young adults and children need self control. If they don't experience things while they are young. They will probably fail as an 18 year old adult. They are adults at 18. This post makes me think the OP is either a helicopter parent or given trophies for PARTICIPATING. Guide them. Dont shelter them.
