Playing Destiny Under Age

Although this is an old, already discussed problem, I believe that we can still change. I feel that the majority of players that play Destiny are under the appropriate age for shooters. I think this age should be 18 and over. I'll give you a few reasons. 1)It causes traumatic situations. I for one do not want my child flinching and screaming away every time they see somebody holding a sword. 2) It causes anti-social instincts to grow. When you think about it, the average session a child will play in Destiny is three to four hours. That's three to four hours where the only communication the are getting is with people they have met over the Internet. I don't want children growing older and being scared of every person they see. 3) It teaches them bad words. Every lobby I go into, there is always that person (usually a child) screaming curse words for no good reason. Where did they find out these words? From older players. If there was a minimum age, you would not have this problem. Children are getting angrier because of this game. 4) My final reason is that it causes violence. No 10 year old should be able to make another creatures head explode, or shoot other players virtually. What happens when that transfers to the real world? That anger and frustration would lead to much property being desecrated including Mailbox Baseball Laser Tag TPing Houses Egging Cars Multiple holes in the wall from being punched. ANY PERSON who do not follow these rules should be arrested with a minimum 2 year sentence. Thank you all for the support you give me. I believe that a change to only 18 year olds and over would make the worlds youth safer and more intelligent than currently.

  • Destiny has a 16+ rating in the UK Let's be fair it's the parents fault for letting them have it
I feel that the majority of players that play Destiny are under the appropriate age for shooters. I think this age should be 18 and over.
I think it should be at least 13 and over, especially on a shooter with online interaction...I've encountered too many 8-12 year olds playing this game. Had a boy who didn't sound all that young and was being a complete foul jerk to some other guy who unintentionally upset him, then out of nowhere, the boy starts crying and his mom eventually comes out, says some stuff, and does what it looked like turning off the system... I have more examples of awkward moments, but most of them happen with the underage crowd or barely 13. Seems most of them are a bit more "reasonable" and less emotional or out of control around 15+.

  • Everything you just said has no logic behind it. There was a study held for literally a decade deciding that video games don't cause anti social behavior, and destiny was made so that kids could play it, it's not a flipping call of duty game.

This is stupid, only way this transfers in to real world is if ur a crappy parent. When kids do violent things there underlying conditions. It's not video games. It's their sick uncle, it's their abusive parents, it's the parents not teaching them right from wrong, etc...Quit blaming video games for bad parenting. It's people like yall that want to put a band aide on the wrong thing.

      • They want to make as much money as possible. If it was rated M they would make less money due to the smaller fanbase. All in all, while you make some good points, bungie and activision would rather make money then raise children. A parents job btw. Most parents suck. You would have to change society. Capitalism wins. Everything else is irrelevant to massive corporations

            • Video games don't make kids violent (neither does music). But "naturally violent" kids are attracted to them. Any kid, or adult, that plays games and performs violent acts was going to perform those acts regardless. As they say correlation does not equal causation. Generally bad parenting is what makes kids actually violent.

            • No, this comes down to parents being parents and taking responsibility for their children and their actions. Nothing will be changing ever if the children's parents don't teach and discipline right from wrong.

I believe it should be monitored by the adult. The child has to understand it is not real and won't transfer to real life. Destiny is better than most shooters because it's lack of gore and aliens as combatants instead of other people. Video games with lack of proper parenting and monitoring are dangerous. Not video games alone.

A) Teen to violence has recently gone down during the years that the most violent video games have come out and proceed to keep going down. B) The game shows no signs of cursing, blood or gore, no 'senseless violence'. C) Your an egotistical troll he'll bent on trolling the forums you sir are a cancer based upon lies and twisted words you snake! D) The reason a 'child' curses is not the games fault it is the parents fault for not putting soap in their damned mouths so you troll can crawl back under your bridge and sit there and sulk!

                  • I used to play a game called Turok when I was a kid, there was a gun called the cerebral bore and it launched a gadget into the enemies head that drilled the brain out, spraying it out the head through a hole in the back lol. It never really bothered me then or now, I think kids know that they're just playing a game. I do think kids can be easily influenced with party chat and things like that though, but it's up to the parents to take their mic away on that one.

                        • I've been invited to join a player, and they'd start talking on the mic sounding extremely young. I bought a mic and eventually asked how old, and eventually we arrived at the answer of 9 years old...Whaaaaaaaaaaaa????!!! haha But I've come across a couple of really good/well mannered 11 and 12 year olds which is quite pleasing.
