Whilst you make a number of excellent points, I think the T for Teen rating is fine. That of course means anyone under 13 should not be playing, but this is another subject. Devils advocate- Whilst the game is full of shooting things and blowing things up and punching things, this is all fantasy violence. I have never seen a four-armed person, or a giant glowing robot that can stop time. Most of what we "kill" in this game bears no resemblance to anything we might see whilst going about our day. Swearing/profanity-there is no cursing in Destiny. Kids learn to curse in school by and large, not videogame lobbies. You can't avoid this, you simply instill in your children that use of profanity around adults/peers/people who might care results in disciplinary action. If you're worried your child might grow up scared of anyone with a sword (by virtue of playing a videogame), it's likely they'll be scared of a sword in any context. My neice is scared of her own shadow, because reasons, not because she's been scared BY a shadow at some point. To qualify your suggestions - Dumbing down of content to appeal to a younger audience. Can't argue against that. Playing violent videogames makes children more likely to grow up committing violence or believing it's ok. I think the small slice of society more susceptible to being influenced by violent games/tv etc would find a way anyway, but all this digital content does make it easier for them to explore their tendencies, and lends weight to the theory. Listening to heavy metal does not turn you into a sociopathic killer with satanic tendencies. I grew up with Dungeons and Dragons, LARP, medieval re-enactment, Warhammer and of course violent videogames and horror/fantasy movies. I consider myself a normal, well adjusted fully functioning member of society who has in no way suffered from exposure to these things and still does not 31 years later (I was playing D&D and videogames when I was 9; I'm now 40). Not arguing with you, just trying to provide balance.
