Playing Destiny Under Age
Although this is an old, already discussed problem, I believe that we can still change. I feel that the majority of players that play Destiny are under the appropriate age for shooters. I think this age should be 18 and over. I'll give you a few reasons.
1)It causes traumatic situations. I for one do not want my child flinching and screaming away every time they see somebody holding a sword.
2) It causes anti-social instincts to grow. When you think about it, the average session a child will play in Destiny is three to four hours. That's three to four hours where the only communication the are getting is with people they have met over the Internet. I don't want children growing older and being scared of every person they see.
3) It teaches them bad words. Every lobby I go into, there is always that person (usually a child) screaming curse words for no good reason. Where did they find out these words? From older players. If there was a minimum age, you would not have this problem. Children are getting angrier because of this game.
4) My final reason is that it causes violence. No 10 year old should be able to make another creatures head explode, or shoot other players virtually. What happens when that transfers to the real world? That anger and frustration would lead to much property being desecrated including
Mailbox Baseball
Laser Tag
TPing Houses
Egging Cars
Multiple holes in the wall from being punched.
ANY PERSON who do not follow these rules should be arrested with a minimum 2 year sentence.

8 RepliesI honestly dont know if you are serious or this is satire.... i hope for the latter. 1) These situations are highly subjective and cant be generalized. Every child reacts differently to these situations. Yes there are images and situations that are not appropiate for children (excessive violence, sexual content etc.) but you cant find them anywhere in Destiny. Yes there are some exploding heads but these are clearly dehumanized aliens and the violence in Destiny is very "clean" (no blood, no horror scenes etc.) 2) Sooooooo communicating with others via the internet is antisocial? Playing with others and having fun together? I dont get it... (fyi: that was sarcasm) Destiny is a multiplayer game where you play with other players, form parties and you can even organize yourself in clans. This is in fact very social. Yes relationships that were bond over the internet can be seen as less valuable as relationships that you have in real life. If you dont want your kids to play videogames the whole day you can always give them time constraints and stuff like that. 3) Dont blame the game, blame the community. And if your children are learning bad words (like they do in school (from their friends), while watching TV, listening to music, are on the internet in general) and you dont like it, talk with them why those words are bad and why they should not use it. 4) *facepalm* Seriously? This again? There is no evidence that videogame violence affects the tendency to violence in the real life. Yes videogames affect your thinking (like every medium (TV, music, art etc.)) and it can be positive and negative. Im not saying that there should be 5 year olds playing games like Splatterhouse, Dead Island, Dead Space or ultraviolent games. Same goes for sexual content and drug abuse (in short: "bad stuff"). And im a big fan of age control on video games (ESRB, PEGI, USK etc.) if they are good and they look at the games closely, but this is a whole other story. In the case of Destiny: Again, Destiny is a science fiction shooter that plays in a far away future. you are killing dehumanized aliens with "clean" violence (see point 1). The game is far enough away from the reality for the normal human beeing to differentiate between Destiny and the real world. Small children CAN have problems with that. But it is the task of the parents to control their children and to talk about it with their children. Videogames can support violence tendencies but that is the case with every other art form. There were people slashing paintings because they were disturbed, there were suicides/homicides because of books (The Sorrows of Young Werther by Goethe or The Catcher in the Rye by Salinger). That is nothing new. TL:DR: Stop blaming videogames, start talking with your children. You have the duty to protect them and to educate them. If you cant, dont blame others and get help (teachers, social workers etc.).
