PlayStation had always had the superior hardware. Xbox has always had the better online service.
I have to disagree with the customer service point though. I bought a 360 at launch in 2005. When setting it up, I made a brand new email account to be used exclusively for my xbox, along with a fresh gamertag.
A few years ago, my 360 from launch died so I bought a slim one to replace it. I had to log in on the new system. I had never had any problems up to this point so I never needed to log into that email address once since 2005.
Because it had been 7 years, I couldn't remember the password to both my xbox account or my email it was tied to. I tried every password I could ever remember using for anything ever and they were all wrong. And because I had tried and failed to log into the email so many times, the account had become permanently locked.
I called Microsoft and was told nothing could be done to retrieve my xbox account because the email account itself was locked. I had hoped that being a Microsoft email account they could still do something but I had no such luck. I tried calling at least once a week for 7 months, receiving the same answer from dozens of Microsoft employees before finally giving up and resolving never to give Microsoft another dime.
