Goku doesn't know to use the sword, he would probably take it and break it. Thus loosing any means of actually damaging crota.

Goku used to use a sword for almost all his fights when he was a kid in Dragonball.

Yeah and he left the power pole behind. What reason would he have to use one now? Plus in his thought process of wanting it to be a fair fight he would break it so crota couldn't use it on him and in his eyes he would see it as an almost fair fist fight. I say in his eyes cause he's dumb. Literally, as far as the z fighters go he is one of the dumbest. Love him to death but he's not smart.
