Because it relies on cheap rehashed tricks to keep the plot going, one stupid kidnapping to the next, the exposition is clunky and forced(especially with the jason todd stuff whose arc is so damn obvious for anybody half-way familiar with batman-makkng the main plot of the game a lesser retelling of "under the red hood", meaning the game is unoriginal. Furthermore, the villains keep rehashing the same tired rhetoric over and over and over. Endless whining of the same message of "tonight you fall batman!" Scarecrow and Arkham Knight are just snivelling whiny bitches the whole game. Then, the game takes back deaths which is cheap. And then arkham knight gets no resolution (unless its in the 100% knight fall ending which I havent seen yet). Oh, and we were promised a new story with a new villain. What we got was a mash up of nightfall and under the the red hood with an established batman villain, so that was lame too. The pacing in this game was just horrible, especially conpared to city which was really solid. I think they had much more game than story, and in their efforts to stretch the narrative over all the gameplay it got really damn stupid. "Batman, so in so is kidnapped! Save them! Oh no, now that you saved them, your other friend is kidnapped!" In the main campaign there are three back to back kidnappings used to move the plot along. That isn't including side mission characters, which would bring the count higher. Lazy writing, poorly executed story, full of repetition and holes. Gameplay makes up for it though.
