Atheon can write them out of existence, they don't know how to work the relic, or (according to lore) have millions of guardians fighting at once

It's actually also stated in lore that the vault is in its own demension and that the vexs abilities in there only work in there. So atheon can only control the time streams in there from his own time stream. And still gets destroyed by mere rockets and a couple of humans. No supers or anything needed, just a good ole rocket and gun.

No, you see, when we kill Athlon with times vengeance, it's actually hundreds of thousands of guardians shooting him at once, because time is then helping you, and allowing other guardians to shoot at him; not just your fire team. So mere rockets won't be nearly enough to take him down

The relic is the only thing that saves the guardians. It was made by Kabr who smashed a gorgon and forged it from the gorgon armor and infused it with his light. It is the tech in the vault capable of withstanding the oracles, thus allowing guardians to "make their own fate"
