135,000 dollars cause they refused to bake a cake? Under the law they have to bake the cake (I think) but that lawsuit is insane.
Who thinks this is fair? And who thinks this is too much?
Edit: This started back in 2013 and they don't own the bakery anymore.
Edit: I've heard that the coupe started to get death threats sent to their address so if that's the case then the amount would be justified.

Who's the bigger douche: the party refusing to bake a cake for something that is against their beliefs, or the party that sued because they were too lazy to find another bakery I'm all for equality but all this lawsuit shit is stupid
-
I was against this lawsuit, but there's more to this than just being declined for the cake. When the couple filed a complaint, the bakery shared all of their personal information online (names, address, that sort of stuff). That goes to far. Also, they chased the couple out of the bakery shouting Leviticus at them. Which just makes them seem like raving retards.

In Louisiana a guy ordered a rebel flag cake from Walmart. They declined him so, just cause he could, he put in an order for an ISIS flag cake and they made it for him right away. Look it up it on YouTube.
i doubt the people who made the cake even knew the picture was of an ISIS flag, they do work at Walmart after all. But still really?
Edited by SSG ACM: 7/8/2015 8:45:25 PMWhat the heck?! All that those same sex couples have to do is buy from another baker. Now bakers nationally have to accept gays for fear of getting sued? $135,000?! WTF?! WTF?! WTF?! WTF?!
-
Another reason why gays ruin stuff.

Edited by cxkxr: 7/15/2015 11:34:29 AMPlayBoy needs to be sued for hiring only women!!! That's discrimination against men! All bars beed to be sued for having ladies nights! Men deserve free drinks too! That is discrimination against men!!! Don't even get me started about BET! Those unenclusive racists!

Good. I honestly think this freedom nonsense has gone too far. It's ludicrous to think that we should actually be able to decide who we bake cakes for and who we don't. Thank god the government has saved us from this harrowing problem.
-
Harassment/death threats a definate no no. As regarding being sued, yes.you don't go into business or anything else & discriminate. Here in UK recently a bakery & hotel were found guilty of discrimination re: baking a same sex cake & hotel for not allowing same sex in their rooms.if I was picky about who I picked up in my transport business,I'd be bust.if people are good enough to come to you, then regardless of what you believe, you serve, thankfully & respectfully. Regards

They have out the couples info and everything AND made death threats against them. I think it's very reasonable.
-
I also heard the bakery owners have out the couples info and harassed them. Also heard this resulted in the receiving dea threats. If true then that makes the money more reasonable.

as a black guy, if I walk into a bakery a bakery and they have a sign that says "Proud members of the KKK" you know what I'd do???
take my ass to another -blam!-ing bakery!
-
What gets me is they could have easily gone to another bakery, but they just had to call attention to themselves and swipe money that could've gone elsewhere, like feeding the poor or building structures.

Edited by Poison Arrowww: 7/12/2015 12:19:15 AMWow. Ridiculous. They have every reason not to, after all, it's a free country right?
-
OP, could you please put the full story people already provided into your edit? That way people don't look foolish when crying "my religious oppression"

Don't want a $135,000 fine? Don't break the law!!!!!
isnt that what the right wingers say when someone gets shot
here's the case details. looks like the bakery publicly shared the customers' personal information, which is what a bulk of the damages seem to be for. http://www.rawstory.com/2015/07/oregon-bakers-werent-fined-over-cake-they-were-punished-for-sharing-lesbian-couples-home-address/ http://www.oregon.gov/boli/SiteAssets/pages/press/Sweet%20Cakes%20FO.pdf

This is scamming right under their noses.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Edited by SethGno: 7/10/2015 11:10:36 AMSo... I hear about this story a lot... but did the bakery actually tell them upfront that they wouldn't serve them? Or was it after the fact that they agreed to do it? Also, I was never aware until now that their state had a law protecting the rights of the customers

Edited by Nixtress: 7/10/2015 9:52:31 AMAm I the only person to think that that amount of money for a buisnisses is them getting off lightly?
