How do people not understand that Jainism is basically the definition of a peaceful religion?

Mostly because they've never heard of it, which in itself is strong evidence that it is in fact the most peaceful. It's followers aren't on tv spewing rhetoric or decapitating people, nor do they have a mascot such as Buddha who is a common fixture in nail salons and chinese restaurants. Go Jainism!

Ikr, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Besides I believe very few of the voters know what jainism is. Their belief is build upon the core principles of non-violence, non-absolutism and non-possessiveness. Jains extend the practice of nonviolence towards all living beings including plants. As for non-absolutism, it means maintaining open-mindedness. This includes the recognition of all perspectives and a humble respect for differences in beliefs. Something I truly have high respect for.

Yeah. Since it's not a huge religion, and is pretty uncommon in the west, I figure anyone who hasn't studied a broad range of religions would know what it is.
