Looking to upgrade my console, tell me what I should get and why

Hey everyone, I really appreciate all of the feedback! It was great to hear a lot of real opinions, suggestions, and information about both systems. It was a lot of reading last night / this morning to catch up on everything, but I feel WAY more informed than before.
I made this post to get some information to help me make a good decision on a new console and I think with all of your help it did. Didn't make this to troll/start a huge debate on here, but I guess it comes with the territory on a forum where people are passionate about their gaming systems.
[b]I made a random decision yesterday and pre-ordered the TTK PS4. I have enough store credit from previous trade ins at GameStop to make it affordable. Also will be trading in my 360 for an additional $100 off. So it looks like I will be starting from scratch, but I have enough friends on the PS+ network to make it fun.[/b]
Again, I really appreciate all of the feedback/suggestions/opinions from you guys. It was a great read and I think I learned all I needed to make the right decision for myself.
Also, thanks for all of the congratulations on me becoming a dad. Although I am still about 6 months out from having that new little one in my arms, I couldn't be more excited about it.

I've had a Xbox 360 for a few years now and most of my friends either have a Xbox One or a PS4 (it's about a 50/50 split). I recently found out that I am going to be a dad (due late January 2016) and because of this and all of the future late nights that come with that in my future, I got permission from the wife to upgrade, so help me figure out what to get.
Since I am already a Microsoft user, obviously going with the Xbox One seems like the easiest one to upgrade to, but I'm open to suggestions.
For the Xbox, I am already familiar with the Xbox Live stuff and I'm already paying the yearly online fee, no need to cancel service etc.
If I upgrade to the Xbox One, do I need to start over with new characters or would my character carry over?
Is the Xbox One backwards compatible with my current 360 games (Destiny, Halo Series, GTA5) or do I have to buy new games no matter what?
Any other benefits to sticking with Microsoft?
As for the PS4, I don't have too much knowledge about this system. I've heard it's got better graphics, but I've also heard the online servers are unreliable leaving you unable to play often? Is it worth it? What other reasons make it worth switching?

Both consoles have there pros and cons. I'd get one based on personal preference, feel, and what your friends use. Good luck to whatever you decide. Hope it's awesome for you.

Well, I'm sure you don't want to lose your progress. Even though I would say Ps4, if you have the 360 and liked it, then get the Xbone.

1 ReplyYou keep every progress that you made on that same xbox love account and you keep the dlcs. Not every game is backwards compatibility a yet. You can find out exactly what games are backward compatible. But at the moment you will have to buy destiny etc again. You can search up on the internet what games are able to play from the 360 to the one.

Ill tell you this, first congrats! I have both consoles, and ONLY use my ps4 for games, and my xbox fro browsing netflix/hulu. Its just so much better. No app crashes every 10 minutes, the apps actually open every time, it doesnt get as hot, and i have it in a smaller shelf than my xbox, and at very least the free games every month [i]actually change[/i] every month. I was an xbox fanboy. I bought the xbox one. It was a mistake. The friends i have that did get the xone, are selling it to get ps4s and starting over on destiny. Ps4 is the way to go man. I sooooo miss that conroller though.

There is no reason to get an xbox over a ps4 unless you're a huge fanboy towards either halo or gears. They're great series, but unless that's what you spend 50% of your time on, then the xbox has no advantage. If backwards compatibility is your selling point, then keep the old system. I have my ps3 right next to my ps4 and just switch inputs if I want to play an old game, not that hard. It took Microsoft two years since launch to get the system back to where it should have been when it launched, which is just sad.

14 RepliesPs4 all the way the reasons are simple Xbox has had to back track every step of the way where the Xbox 1 is concerned they made it backwards compatiable cause they have no games coming out for it. Instead theve focused on perifrals that won't matter in the long run mean while ps4 has been all about the player more games then ever was backwards compatiable from the beganing last thing 3 words NO MANS SKY look it up it's what destiney was ment to be but failed at anyways if you read thanks for your time of not I got to rant about the better console for a bit

Edited by dudeydude77: 7/15/2015 2:17:35 PMMicrosoft is releasing windows 10 soon for Xbox one, which will put the UI far beyond playstation's reach, where as the current UI on Playstation is better than Xbox's mainly because of speed If you're only going to play Destiny, get a Playstation for the exclusives But if you're looking to play other games, look at the exclusives and the controller IMO it's hard to play with Dual shock, but Sony boys think it's hard to play with Xbox controller Whichever controller u like better is a big factor for which you should buy Besides controller, UI, and exclusives, the boxes are the exact same thing And backwards compatibility is coming for Xbox, while Sony charges a subscription to play old games (I think)

If you're happy with Microsoft and you already have friends on Xbone you'd be as well going with that. Also if you're into the whole backwards compatability thing you'll be able to play some of your old games. Personally I switched and went for the PS4 when it came time to upgrade from the old 360. That was more due to a growing hatred for Microsoft as a company though. Can't say I've regretted it, the PS4 is great but in reality there's very little difference between it and the Xbone

Edited by Laggin Lycan: 7/15/2015 1:54:17 PMxbox all the way. your already a xbox user with friends and games right? xbox one has already started the beta program for backwards compatibility by the end of the year there will be 100 games available to play and available to all users. say you have the disc pop it in and you will be able to download the compatible version for xbox one same goes for all dlc and digital games. now if you owned something digital you will see the game in my games and app menu also you will be able to play with friends that are still on 360. and last but not least PS4 SERVERS ARE PURE CRAP. you will get disconnected more than a kid stealing WiFi from Mc Donalds P.S. please excuse the poor grammar im half asleep and just started into a rant and don't feel like sitting back correcting it :)
