Looking to upgrade my console, tell me what I should get and why

Hey everyone, I really appreciate all of the feedback! It was great to hear a lot of real opinions, suggestions, and information about both systems. It was a lot of reading last night / this morning to catch up on everything, but I feel WAY more informed than before.
I made this post to get some information to help me make a good decision on a new console and I think with all of your help it did. Didn't make this to troll/start a huge debate on here, but I guess it comes with the territory on a forum where people are passionate about their gaming systems.
[b]I made a random decision yesterday and pre-ordered the TTK PS4. I have enough store credit from previous trade ins at GameStop to make it affordable. Also will be trading in my 360 for an additional $100 off. So it looks like I will be starting from scratch, but I have enough friends on the PS+ network to make it fun.[/b]
Again, I really appreciate all of the feedback/suggestions/opinions from you guys. It was a great read and I think I learned all I needed to make the right decision for myself.
Also, thanks for all of the congratulations on me becoming a dad. Although I am still about 6 months out from having that new little one in my arms, I couldn't be more excited about it.

I've had a Xbox 360 for a few years now and most of my friends either have a Xbox One or a PS4 (it's about a 50/50 split). I recently found out that I am going to be a dad (due late January 2016) and because of this and all of the future late nights that come with that in my future, I got permission from the wife to upgrade, so help me figure out what to get.
Since I am already a Microsoft user, obviously going with the Xbox One seems like the easiest one to upgrade to, but I'm open to suggestions.
For the Xbox, I am already familiar with the Xbox Live stuff and I'm already paying the yearly online fee, no need to cancel service etc.
If I upgrade to the Xbox One, do I need to start over with new characters or would my character carry over?
Is the Xbox One backwards compatible with my current 360 games (Destiny, Halo Series, GTA5) or do I have to buy new games no matter what?
Any other benefits to sticking with Microsoft?
As for the PS4, I don't have too much knowledge about this system. I've heard it's got better graphics, but I've also heard the online servers are unreliable leaving you unable to play often? Is it worth it? What other reasons make it worth switching?

Just get the console that your friends are on. When it's really a 50/50 split then have a look at the exclusive titles and decide which you find more interesting.

I was in the same situation as you about a month ago deciding to get xbox one or a ps4. I was playing on ps3 before and finally one of my buddies convinced me to get the xbox one. I personally like the xbox one just cause the controller fits your hands better than playstation does. But I'll probably get me a ps4 aswell on down the road.

Then just grab one of the systems that comes with Master Chief collection since they are supposed to come with a $40 gift card. :) XBOX One will be backwards compatible by Christmas. Not all but sounds like a lot of games!

I would say it's a better family oriented system as well. Play station is focused on gaming and you're about to have a family now so go with the family console. Plus it's cheaper! Ps: psn doesn't go down nearly as frequently as people suggest.

Edited by CapnMark: 7/9/2015 7:50:09 PMXbox One! They have a great sale for $350 if you get the Master Chief Collection. Plus you get to play 360 games on Xbox One so it's backwards compatible now. And if you get Live Gold, you will be able to change your gamertag if you ever so please, cause the gamertag that you have for psn is the done deal and you can't change it. Coming from the PS4 the controllers have been awkward to use for me because I have massive hands. Xbox Ones controllers feel more natural to use and doesn't affect your shoulder position.

I'm on ps4 btw. I don't think you need to re level characters, your progress will carry over(I think).for you, switching to Xbox one will probably be a much more convenient choice if you already bought dlc, the game, and paid for Xbox live. But overall the most important thing (for me atleast) is who you want to play with. If you would rather play with your friends on ps4, maybe go with ps4. If you prefer playing with your Xbox friends, go with the Xbox one.

you have your stuff on X360, the XB1 is your natural choice, you character(s) carry over, I have both and play on both but I'm giving up on the XB1 version, exclusives are my reason as well as I have a dedicated group to play with, not so on the Xb1, I land up being a 4th or 7th stringer, and 3-4 sets of bounties gets old fast! If you get a PS4 your starting all over, PS+ is required.

6 RepliesEdited by Senty: 7/9/2015 7:43:57 PMYou don't need to start your characters over if you upgrade to the Xbox one and you get your DLC for free if you bought it on the Xbox 360 and i believe you get destiny free if you bought it digitally on the 360. Also, te Xbox One is making more and more games backwards compatible. If you get an Xbox One (IF) before December, you should message me on the Xbox one so I can invite you to the Preview Program.

Your destiny save will carry over and in my opinion the exclusive destiny strikes isn't enough to make me want to play destiny on PS4. plus the Xbox one is great for watching Netflix, Hulu, movies and stuff like that if you want to use it in the living room. Also, for me, the Xbox controller is a lot better than the ps4 controller (once again just my opinion) Edit: oh and Xbox live is constantly a better service than psn
