Looking to upgrade my console, tell me what I should get and why

Hey everyone, I really appreciate all of the feedback! It was great to hear a lot of real opinions, suggestions, and information about both systems. It was a lot of reading last night / this morning to catch up on everything, but I feel WAY more informed than before.
I made this post to get some information to help me make a good decision on a new console and I think with all of your help it did. Didn't make this to troll/start a huge debate on here, but I guess it comes with the territory on a forum where people are passionate about their gaming systems.
[b]I made a random decision yesterday and pre-ordered the TTK PS4. I have enough store credit from previous trade ins at GameStop to make it affordable. Also will be trading in my 360 for an additional $100 off. So it looks like I will be starting from scratch, but I have enough friends on the PS+ network to make it fun.[/b]
Again, I really appreciate all of the feedback/suggestions/opinions from you guys. It was a great read and I think I learned all I needed to make the right decision for myself.
Also, thanks for all of the congratulations on me becoming a dad. Although I am still about 6 months out from having that new little one in my arms, I couldn't be more excited about it.

I've had a Xbox 360 for a few years now and most of my friends either have a Xbox One or a PS4 (it's about a 50/50 split). I recently found out that I am going to be a dad (due late January 2016) and because of this and all of the future late nights that come with that in my future, I got permission from the wife to upgrade, so help me figure out what to get.
Since I am already a Microsoft user, obviously going with the Xbox One seems like the easiest one to upgrade to, but I'm open to suggestions.
For the Xbox, I am already familiar with the Xbox Live stuff and I'm already paying the yearly online fee, no need to cancel service etc.
If I upgrade to the Xbox One, do I need to start over with new characters or would my character carry over?
Is the Xbox One backwards compatible with my current 360 games (Destiny, Halo Series, GTA5) or do I have to buy new games no matter what?
Any other benefits to sticking with Microsoft?
As for the PS4, I don't have too much knowledge about this system. I've heard it's got better graphics, but I've also heard the online servers are unreliable leaving you unable to play often? Is it worth it? What other reasons make it worth switching?

2 RepliesPs4. You'll get exclusives a year early for Destiny and the system is amazing. But if you are looking for an entertainment console then go xbox.

Windows 10 is being released soon. It will be running on your PC and Xbox One. This will offer good integration between the two components. According to some reports, Smartglass will be improved so that it will finally allow full integration with the Xbox, allowing you to access the console from your PC. This means you will be able to use PC peripherals, such as a keyboard, when playing games remotely.

PS4 is great because it has DDR5 memory when Xbone only has DDR4. There is a difference. Trust me. Also, Hawkmoon. Hawkmoon. Hawkmoon. Hawkmoon. Aaaand Hawkmoon. Also PlayStation Plus is very easy to set up. Much easier than you might think.

You have a 360, so go for the One. PSN isn't down everyday, but occasionally it'll have spotty service. I have an S4 out of preference, and anticipation for No Man's Sky ;).

6 RepliesPs4 just looks nicer and they dont have assholes who only want fully maxed gjhallys and other stuff. As well xbox sucks they spent all of there time worrying about apps and it looks like you have a windows 8 computer do you really need to watch youtube and tv while playing video games if you game get a system where they made for pure gaming. Ps4. As well im a playstation fan because they were the firat company to make 3d gaming on a disk if it wasent for sony gaming would be totally diffrent. Xbox just had to copy. Xbox fanbase is a bunch of kids ive probably ran into two kids yelling nihher and fuk yur mom bumb but xbox theres tons of that shiz.....

Xbox bcuz they have more players so it will be quicker I know play station get hawkmoon but that means you won't get rely by it

I'd say Xbox one to save you the hassle of levelling up all over again, along with pretty much everything else.

Do you wanna play No Mans Sky? Horizon? Uncharted 4? And whatever else Naughty Dogs brilliant minds come up with? Then get a PS4. You want Halo 5? And Gears of War? Get Xbox one. I personally like Sonys 1st party Dev teams better than Microsofts and PS4 is a major part of Sony revenue but Xbox is only a small fraction of Microsofts... Interpret that as you will but Sony has more reason to keep fans happy than Xbox does.

The only time I've had trouble with not playing was Christmas when squad fuk3d with ps4 but other than that it's mainly destiny's problem for not playing

Honestly I grew up with ps4 I've has an Xbox the first one then ps2 again and then ps3 I just like the controller for ps it's just simple I can get used to xbox but idk I just like the user features on ps and I mainly play destiny and more on that.
