Hey everyone, I really appreciate all of the feedback! It was great to hear a lot of real opinions, suggestions, and information about both systems. It was a lot of reading last night / this morning to catch up on everything, but I feel WAY more informed than before.
I made this post to get some information to help me make a good decision on a new console and I think with all of your help it did. Didn't make this to troll/start a huge debate on here, but I guess it comes with the territory on a forum where people are passionate about their gaming systems.
I made a random decision yesterday and pre-ordered the TTK PS4. I have enough store credit from previous trade ins at GameStop to make it affordable. Also will be trading in my 360 for an additional $100 off. So it looks like I will be starting from scratch, but I have enough friends on the PS+ network to make it fun.
Again, I really appreciate all of the feedback/suggestions/opinions from you guys. It was a great read and I think I learned all I needed to make the right decision for myself.
Also, thanks for all of the congratulations on me becoming a dad. Although I am still about 6 months out from having that new little one in my arms, I couldn't be more excited about it.
Thanks again, guardians.

I've had a Xbox 360 for a few years now and most of my friends either have a Xbox One or a PS4 (it's about a 50/50 split). I recently found out that I am going to be a dad (due late January 2016) and because of this and all of the future late nights that come with that in my future, I got permission from the wife to upgrade, so help me figure out what to get.
Since I am already a Microsoft user, obviously going with the Xbox One seems like the easiest one to upgrade to, but I'm open to suggestions.
For the Xbox, I am already familiar with the Xbox Live stuff and I'm already paying the yearly online fee, no need to cancel service etc.
If I upgrade to the Xbox One, do I need to start over with new characters or would my character carry over?
Is the Xbox One backwards compatible with my current 360 games (Destiny, Halo Series, GTA5) or do I have to buy new games no matter what?
Any other benefits to sticking with Microsoft?
As for the PS4, I don't have too much knowledge about this system. I've heard it's got better graphics, but I've also heard the online servers are unreliable leaving you unable to play often? Is it worth it? What other reasons make it worth switching?

Ps4 is less competitive and the get exclusives

Ps4, it runs smoother, looks better I mean come on really all the Xbox one has is halo. Call of duty used to be theirs but now it's come down to where it's switching platforms. Not only that but people talking about the colors being more brighter and gives out a more wow than a ps4 but last I checked if you go outside the colors don't go wow? They are more like a dull. So if you want realism than a ps4 is the way to go. Of course you can upgrade the memory but would you rather install it manually than it be a usb like Xbox? Anyone could take that so quick. When you change a hard drive on a ps4 it still looks the same. When you add a hard drive to an Xbox there's a usb hanging from the console. Boring!! Trust me, the best sellers are on ps4 with great stories, amazing gameplay, multiplayer and all.

Get whatever your friends have

This is a Bungie forum so alot are probably going to say Xbone fir Halo but I say PS4, better community and some real nice shit coming to them as well as cheaper, downside is that ps controllers suck unless you have small hands.

Did you decide yet?

Nintendo 64

A PC.

In fall of 2015 games are going to be backwards compatible
-
ps4 otherwise you will be cheated out of content by multiple companies.

Xbox one has more votes.
lel
Yes, go with Xbox one. You are already embedded within that ecosystem. I have both and they are both excellent. The X1 also supports external storage which will come in handy this fall when backward compatibility is released. The UI can be confusing at first, but once you get used to it, it's as easy as 360. And of course, Halo 5

Ps4 duh

It's fun having kids, my 5th one just turned 10mos a few weeks ago, congrats. But with the system thing, I am compelled to tell you PS4 because I have one and that makes me bias towards it. I would go with Xbox One if you have 360, it's what you are use to and you can upgrade your Destiny account and not start over(that would suck). Anyways have a good one and enjoy being a father, nothing in the world like it.

Edited by HIGGZY420: 7/12/2015 4:40:41 PMGddr5 vs ddr3 lol Both systems were outdated before they even launched. I'd take the less outdated one

I'm a ps4 player. I wouldn't want to start over. Get an xb1.
-
I have a PS4 and I love it to death, but it sounds like you should get an XB1 because you already have live and other games. You also won't have to restart Destiny.

All the Ponies (sony fanboys) will jump up and down screaming graphics and running smoother. I have not noticed any visible difference between the two systems. At all. I have both. In fact, the Xbone tends to get shit done faster, and contains WAYYYYYYY more features. So it boils down to games. PS4 - No Man's Sky, but owned by a pathetic company who yet again, ruined Spider-Man Xbone - Halo Series, and full support from Microsoft, one of the most successful software companies since ever. I'm biased towards the XBone, obviously.

99% of games are ports one way or the other, so they are always very similar. Occasionally PS4 runs 1080 as a priority over frame rate, which means sharper visuals, but occasional small frame rate advantage on Xbox. I have both in my house. I have a PS4, as do most of my similar age friends, my 12 year old has an Xbox one, as do most of his friends. Personally, I feel the community is more mature and a little older on ps4, so that suits me better.

Good luck. Just had my first one(boy) about 2 months ago.

This is what happened with me I had a 360 and Destiny just came out that day and my gf said "honey stop by game stop I have a surprise for you. I was like ok sure. I thought she was gonna buy me Destiny for the 360 but nope she bought me a whole new Xbox one with Destiny and watchdogs. For half an hour though I was debating in my head whether to get the one or ps4. Chose the one cause I had the subscription already and I don't like the analog sticks for playstation. I like the asymmetrical analogs for the one. Handles a lot more better
